In Spain, where thousands of Ukrainian refugees have taken refuge, police arrested members of a criminal gang that robbed the homes of refugees who fled the war in Ukraine and stole more than 1 million euros worth of belongings, writes The Local.

Ten suspects specialized in such victims, as they usually bring all their savings and valuables.Spanish police said in a statement.

It is assumed that the attackers entered seven houses of Ukrainian refugees in the eastern provinces of Alicante and Murcia on the Mediterranean coast of Spain.

Police said they recovered €1.25 million worth of stolen items and cash, including a stamp collection worth approximately half a million euros, jewelry and computers.

The gang is suspected of using trackers installed on victims’ cars to study their daily routine and determine when they are not at home. As part of the investigation, seven Ukrainians and three Russians were arrested, and she did not rule out that new victims would be found and new arrests would be made.

Spain took in 160,000 Ukrainian refugees who were given temporary protection after fleeing the war-torn country.

As FACTS wrote, earlier the Spanish police, in cooperation with Europol, exposed a criminal organization involved in smuggling tobacco products. Mostly Ukrainian refugees who ended up in Europe, fleeing the war, worked in illegal factories.
