At this stage of the Grand Slam tournament, the Pole met with Tallon Greekspur, who defeated Spaniard Pedro Martinez. The favorite of this meeting was the Pole, who occupies the 14th place in the ATP ranking. In turn, his opponent before this tournament took 39th place.

Roland Garros: great start by Hubert Gurkacz

The match started before 17:00 with a kind of triumph for the Pole in his service. Already in the next game, the Wroclaw player confidently broke the Dutchman, who did not even score a point. Four minutes later it’s already 2-0 in favor of the Pole.

With the score at 3-0, Grikspur caught the wind in his sails and first defended his serve, and then won a break point, which, fortunately for Hubie, he did not use. This set ended with the score 6:3 for the 14th racket of the world.

Gurkach did not last in the second set

Already in the first game of the second set, Gurkacz was close to breaking Grikspur, but the Dutchman defended well against the Pole’s aggressive plays. According to the proverb “what is delayed will not run away” and with the score 1:1 the player from Wroclaw used the first break point.

The Dutchman woke up in time, because the next time he broke the “Hubi” again, and the game began anew. The tennis players went one on one until the score was 5:6, then the 39th tennis player of the ATP rating defeated Gurkach for the second time, which led to a 1:1 draw in sets. After the last unsuccessful action, the Pole could not stand it and threw the racket onto the court.

Killer tie-breaks and the return of Gurkach from a long journey

In the third set, the players went head-to-head, although with the score 1:1 Gurkach had three break points, but he did not use any of them. A similar situation took place when the score was 3:3, but the Pole again failed to beat the opponent. The tie-break turned out to be very nervous, but in the end Grikspur won with a score of 15:13.

The fourth set was the last. With the score 3:3, Hubert Gurkacz was broken by the Dutchman, who, despite a difficult start, got better with each successive ball. However, the Wroclaw player did not give up and broke his opponent’s back in the next game. The winner in this game was to be determined in a tie-break, which ended with a score of 7:5 in favor of the Pole, leading 5:0.

In the fifth decisive set, Hubert Hurkacs won 6-4 and thus advanced to the third round of Roland Garros.
