Earlier this year, Brandon Cronenberg scared and alarmed the audience with his latest subversive horror film infinity pool. In the footsteps of his 2020 hit Ownermovie sends Alexander Skarsgard on a vacation from hell as he is introduced to the resort’s haunting culture, he and his wife Em (Cleopatra Coleman) who visit. Initially, given the dreaded NC-17 rating, the film had to go through several cuts to return to an R rating for theaters. However, Cronenberg wants fans to experience the full breadth of his sci-fi horror, and so he and distributor NEON teamed up to bring both. infinity pool And Owner for three special screenings in all its uncut glory this June to celebrate the release of the uncut VOD on June 13th.
The event, aptly titled Brandon Cronenberg Uncut, will screen both films back-to-back at three different venues - June 20 at the Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco, June 21 at the Aero Theater in Los Angeles with Beyond Fest and the American Cinematheque and June 23 in New York at the Metrograph. For all three, Cronenberg himself will be there to answer any questions regarding his unique horror traits between screenings.
“What makes this special is that this is the first time infinity pool comes without MPA interference in theaters in the US - it was shown only at Sundance,” Cronenberg said of the screening. infinity pool debuted at the Sundance festival, where it received solid reviews from those who had the opportunity to see it. During an interview with Collider outside of the festival, Cronenberg even commented on the NC-17 rating system, admitting that while the version audiences saw was basically the same, it didn’t avoid some loss of his vision in the cuts. Therefore, it was especially important for him to bring both films together in the form in which they were intended for audiences on the big screen. “Owner Uncut played Sundance and Beyond Fest in 2020 and then played drive-in during COVID. This is the first time these films are played together uncut.”

Considered one of the best movies of 2020, not to mention horror movies. Owner looks depravedly at the skilled corporate killer Tasya Vos (Andrea Riseborough) who performs her loud marks by controlling other people’s bodies through a special implant, causing them to commit suicide once she’s done. She slowly begins to lose touch with her own sense of identity, but things take a terrible turn when she finds herself trapped by a host named Tate (Christopher Abbott), over which she struggles to take control.
infinity pool plays with personality and also follows James (Skarsgård) and Em to a resort in a foreign country where they meet another couple, Gaby (Mia Goth) and Alban (Jalil Lesper), with whom they got along. However, when James accidentally kills someone in a traffic accident, he faces the death penalty under the laws of the country. He quickly learns that the richest criminals can get around this by paying to execute the clone in his stead, which gives James a twisted desire that pushes him deeper into the resort’s culture and eventually breaks him.
