In each of the five sets played during the ATP in Miami by Hubert Hurkach, the winner had to be determined by a tie-break. Although in the second round against Kokkinakis the Pole managed to hit five goals and turn the tide of the match, in the case of Adrian Mannarino it was very difficult to repeat this.
This year at the Miami Open, Hubert Hurkacz showed himself rather mediocre, but very effective. A native of Wroclaw began his performance at the tournament from the second round, in which he met with Australian Tanasi Kokkinakis.
The match with a rival with a lower rating (ATP 94) was very difficult for the Pole. Their match lasted over three and a half hours, with each of the three sets ending in a tie-break. In the first, Kokkinakis had 12:10, in the second, 9:7, in Gurkacz, and in the third, 8:6, also in Wroclaw. In addition, Hubie kept his focus during these decisive moments, as evidenced by a full five well-adjusted match points.
ATP Miami: Hubert Hurkacz vs. Adrian Mannarino
After this insane rivalry, our tennis player reached the quarterfinals with a very uncomfortable opponent, Adrian Mannarino. The Frenchman is left-handed and in the past often gave Gurkach problems. They will play together for the first time in 2021. Then, as in November last year, Wroclaw won. His opponent yesterday defeated the Pole only once - at the previous Australian Open. Then he beat our compatriot painfully, as much as 3:0.
This Monday’s match was also very close, just like in the second round, because it lasted almost two and a half hours. In this meeting, Gurkach served very well - he scored as many as 20 aces of serve, but this was not enough. The Pole is known for his “nervousness” and, as in the fight with Tanasi Kokkinakis, in each of the sets played against Mannarino, the outcome was decided in a tie-break.
Hubert Gurkacz did not let the fate of the meeting eventually turn around
Unfortunately, in neither of the two sets, the native of Wroclaw used his strengths in the form of strong and accurate passes. It was the Frenchman who was more effective in the end and often kept his cool, unlike Gurkach. Ultimately, both tiebreaks fell to Mannarino’s lot - the first won to five, and in the second he overtook the Pole to zero and reached the quarterfinals of the Miami Open.
In the ATP quarter-finals in Miami, the Frenchman will face Christopher Eubanks, who is ranked 119th in the ATP rankings. The favorite of this confrontation will be the killer of Hubert Gurkacz.
