Five-year-old Lenka called an ambulance for her mother, who lost consciousness. The girl was also at home with her younger brother. Listen to the touching recording from 112.
An unusual call was received by one of the dispatchers of the emergency service 112. It was not an adult who asked for help, but a small child - five-year-old Lenka from the Mragowo district.
The feat of little Lenka
The girl showed not only great sharpness of mind, but also incredible composure in this difficult and stressful situation. She knew which number to call for help. She also provided the dispatcher with detailed information about her mother’s health. From the very beginning of the conversation, she emphasized that there was also a small child in the house, her brother Timek:
“Good morning lady […] My mom has a tiny baby […] Mom is here in the bathroom […] does not move […] She answered but doesn’t say anything else […] We have Timek, a tiny baby […] Will you come?” - we hear in a touching recording of a conversation between little Lenka and a dispatcher, posted on the police website.
The girl knew her address perfectly. She also checked to see if the door to the house was open. Thanks to all these actions, the police and medical services managed to get to the apartment faster. On the spot, besides Lenka and one-year-old Timek, they found a mother who had lost consciousness in the bathroom. She restored it only after the intervention of the rescuers, who provided the woman with the necessary assistance.
This story might not have had a happy ending if it were not for the heroic attitude of a five-year-old girl, as well as the behavior of the dispatcher herself, who created a friendly and kind atmosphere during the conversation. Thanks to her composure, the child did not panic and provided the information necessary for the rescue operation.
Example comes from junior
Five-year-old Lenka from Mrągow County can be an example for other children. Her courage and composure could be the envy of many adults, who often lose their “coolness” in a situation that is dangerous to health and life. Often the youngest are at the height of the situation and know best how to behave.
Teach your child how to respond in crisis situations
Already three-year-old children should develop an interest in providing first aid to others. Booklets about emergency services, poems and songs are helpful. Thanks to them, you can easily teach your child emergency numbers.
It is worth making sure that the child knows his name and the city in which he lives. Preschool children should already know their home address or know that in the event of an emergency, they should notify neighbors or dial another parent or other close person on the phone. Keyboard shortcuts can help with this, making it easier for the child to call for help.
