On Saturday, July 23, it became known that Lithuania lifted the ban on the rail transportation of sanctioned goods to Kaliningrad from other regions of Russia and back. Cargo will be able to move without any serious restrictions on the Lithuanian territory. But road transport is still prohibited.
As FACTS has already reported, in June the Lithuanian government banned the transit through its territory of various sanctioned goods, including steel, other metals, building materials. In general, the “black” list contained more than 50% of the cargo destined for Kaliningrad.
Russian Security Council Chairman Nikolai Patrushev threatened in response to “serious negative consequences for the population of Lithuania.” Moscow hastened to blame Vilnius for everything. She did not care that the Lithuanian authorities were simply carrying out, as they had, the orders of the European Union.
In mid-July, Brussels clarified that the transit ban applies only to road transport. Rail transit to Kaliningrad can be resumed.
In the near future, 60 wagons of cement will arrive in this city.
Earlier reported that Moscow expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of Norway, whose authorities ordered to carefully check the cargo destined for Svalbard.
