abbot elementary could win our hearts with his premiere season, but now we have confirmation that Quinta Brunson-Led series receives a full order of episodes for the second season! Taking us through the day-to-day lives of teachers at Abbott Elementary School, the series takes us back to a joyous love of mockumentary style with characters who either love their job or…maybe not good at it (sorry Principal Ava).
Exclusively from TermIt was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that the series would be returning for a second season with even more episodes, and we also know that Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis) was also upgraded to a series regular this time. So what does this mean for fans of the show? This means Janine (Brunson) along with her fellow teachers is trying to make Abbott the best school for her students and we can’t wait!
The announcement of a second season isn’t all that surprising considering how many Emmy nominations the show has received. In addition to many awards for the show as a whole, the series also won individual acting awards for Brunson. Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, as well as Sheryl Lee Ralph. But what’s so great is knowing that the show will have more episodes in its second season because, as for those who love all things mockumentary comedy, that’s the trend for them, and so they feel good about it. abbot elementary follow their example.
“We spent most of the first season showing what this show is capable of. … Now we can have some fun,” Brunson said. “We have finished all the construction and now we have some fun bottle episodes.” And when the executive producer Patrick Shumaker hinted that there would be more episodes in the second season, Brunson replied, “Okay, that’s it. We have more episodes this season than the first.”
At the end of the first season, we left one very important relationship story between Janine and Gregory (Williams) up in the air. For the most part it’s Ben Wyatt and Leslie Knope from abbot elementary and it’s nice to see “will they, won’t they” return to our screens every week. Season 2 is not a shock and I hope it brings more comedy praise, but get more episodes of the show? It’s just the icing on the cake!
The second season will premiere on September 21st. In the meantime, check out an excerpt from the first season below:
