On the first day of SDCC, one of the panels hosted by Disney+ was supposed to showcase the upcoming (and anticipated) new series. National Treasure: Edge of History. Based on the 2004 and 2007 adventure films featuring Nicolas Cage (The Unbearable Weight of Huge Talent), the series will continue to be centered around treasure hunters who uncover secrets hidden in historical artwork. The panel featured a short film featuring both a first look and behind-the-scenes footage of the new show.
The first and most important piece of information revealed by the short is that the fans national treasure the film series won’t be disappointed as the TV show, which works like a soft reboot, retains all the elements that made the films special: mystery that invites viewers to try to figure it out along with the characters, fun, and a fast-paced adventure that jumps from place to place with many twists and turns. .
The panel added another important piece of information: Justin Bartha is not the only familiar face we’ll see during the series premiere. Oscar nominee Harvey Keitel (Crime novel) reprises his role as Peter Sadusky and will be featured as a guest star. In the original films, Sadusky was an FBI Special Agent who was also a Freemason, which prompted him to help Benjamin Gates (Cage) solve historical mysteries. Now, it’s entirely possible that Sadusky is taking the same stance and also acting as an anti-hero of sorts on the show.
In addition, Bart’s returning cast member revealed in the featurette what makes National Treasure: Edge of History what’s more funny is that we’re obviously in a different world than we were at the start of the 2000s, and now technology is playing an even bigger role in unlocking the secrets of history. Last but not least, the villain of the series Catherine Zeta-Jones (Zorro mask) comments that she’s a fan of the movies and teases that her character will be playing cat and mouse with a group of explorers, meaning they’ll do their best to stay one step ahead of each other during the adventure.
National Treasure: Edge of History leads Mira Nair (Vanity Fair), with scripts from Marianne as well as Cormac Wibberleywho also wrote original films. John Turtletaubdirector of original films, returns as executive producer with Jerry Bruckheimer. The cast also includes Lisette Olivera, Jordan Rodriguez, Zuri Reid, Jake Austin Walker, Antonio Cipriano, Lyndon Smithas well as Jacob Vargas.
