In mid-May, the government adopted a law on the introduction of a permanent fourteenth pension, two weeks ago it was approved by the Seimas, and shortly before the long weekend, the Senate began work on the law.
Fourteenth pension. Will the limit increase?
The law assumes that the amount of “fourteen” will be equal to the minimum old-age pension (currently PLN 1,588.44 gross), but persons whose old-age or disability pension does not exceed PLN 2,900 gross will receive the full amount. , and for the rest, the principle “one zloty for one zloty” is provided. Senators have doubts about this issue, since the above limit is fixed in the law, which means that after indexation, some pensioners will lose their right to the fourteenth old-age pension in full.
Why did the government set such a limit? Where did the $2,000 come from? 900 PLN? - asked Magdalena Kochan, a senator from the Civic Coalition, at a meeting of the Senate Family Committee.
This limit was in effect in 2021-2022, when the fourteenth pension was paid as a lump sum. During this time, as Fact notes, pensions were increased by more than 20 percent. – Maintain the correct proportions – emphasizes Senator Kochan in an interview with the newspaper.
Therefore, the senators propose to index the limit each year, which gives the right to “fourteen” in the maximum amount. The newspaper’s calculations show that if this year the limit was indexed in the same way as pensions (by 14.8%), then in the amount of PLN 3,444 gross, they will be granted the fourteenth pension in full.
Parliament decision?
Senator Kochan also announces an amendment, according to which the Parliament will decide on the date of payment of “fourteen” and its amount. It should be reminded that the resolutions adopted by the Saeima assume that the decision on these issues is made by the government by means of a resolution, which must be issued by October 31st.
The work of the Senate on the law on the fourteenth pension will be completed at the next meeting of the upper house of parliament, which starts on June 21.
