Netflix been a real heartthrob for many years. While they have legions of devoted fans, great critical success, and sometimes even accolades, it’s not enough for them. Episode after episode of the story ends abruptly before they have a chance to properly end, depriving fans of the storytelling completion they deserve. Unfortunately for most, this is just the end, or they’ve fallen into some kind of frontier period of an unknown future.
However, these Netflix cancellations have proven the strength of the people. Fans are the measure of a show’s success, and they may even save it from extinction. Even if their efforts are in vain, this will never stop fans from being open and honest in their outrage and desire for renewal, no matter how much time has passed.
‘Julie and the Ghosts’ (2020 - 2020)
Julie (Madison Keys), a teenager whose passion for music has not died out since the death of her mother, finds herself at the head of a group of teenage boys. The only problem is the ghosts that have been dead for 25 years. Together, The Phantoms help bring Julia’s life back to life, and she in turn helps them become the band they never were.
Applauding his music and good vibes, fans have flooded Netflix social media protesting his upgrade. On Twitter, the #SaveJATP hashtag was trending, along with an online petition with thousands of signatures (which is gaining momentum even today).
‘OA’ (2016 - 2019)
When Prairie Johnsonbrit marling) reappears after a seven-year absence, her hometown stunned. Now a young woman, scarred and miraculously no longer blind, Prairie calls herself “OA” - the original angel - and struggles to come clean about what happened in the years she was gone.
Where the creators had planned to tell the story in five parts, Netflix shut down immediately after two, despite overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and fans. The sudden cancellation of the show due to a massive cliffhanger sparked outrage from fans on social media with popular hashtags and online petitions. The protests even reached a whole new level, IndieWire reports, when fans raised enough money for a digital billboard in Times Square to demand an extension of the show.
Destiny: The Winx Saga (2021–2022)
Bloom needing to adjust to her newly discovered fairy magic (Abigail Cowan) enters a magical boarding school known as Alfea in the Otherworld. There she meets new fairies and specialists and befriends them, learning more about her past.
Fans were furious when the beloved game adaptation Winx Club ended with a megacliffhanger. With its second season spending five weeks on the Global Top 10, it’s no surprise that fans have been bombarded with Netflix comments on social media protesting the cancellation of yet another fan-favorite youth series.
“One Day at a Time” (2017 - 2020)
With three generations of Cuban Americans living under the same roof, Penelope Alvarez (Justina Machado), a recently divorced ex-military woman, is learning to navigate life with her teenage daughter, teenage son, and traditionalist mother.
After the hit sitcom was canceled after three seasons, fans flooded Twitter with the hashtag #SaveODAAT as the producers worked hard to find a new home for it. Fortunately, three months after its cancellation, it became known that One day at a time was picked up by the CBS pop network. And by 2020, the fourth season has begun. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, its airing schedule was disrupted and future episodes were rescheduled and replaced with an animated release. By the end of the year, much to the dismay of the fans, the show was officially cancelled.
“Warrior Nun” (2020 - 2022)

Life changes forever for Ava SilvaAlba Baptista) when she suddenly wakes up in a mortuary with a divine artifact in her back. After discovering that she now has superpowers, Ava is called to join an ancient order of demon-hunting nuns.
With the recent cancellation of the Netflix catalog, its dedicated and passionate fan base has been devastated by the news of warrior nunand this happened shortly after the release of the 2nd season. Where fans are currently discussing it on social media by cheering #SaveWarriorNun on channel trends and on Netflix profile comments, confirmed show host Simon Berry on Twitter that they are looking for a new home for the show. Let’s hope!
“Ann with an E” (2017-2019)
The action takes place in the late 1890s, when 13-year-old Ann Shirley (Amybeth McNulty) is an orphan who was mistakenly sent to live with the elderly Cuthberg siblings. Where she is naturally vibrant and energetic, this is Anna’s journey to find acceptance and love among her new family and new hometown of Prince Edward Island.
Since it is a joint product between Netflix and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, fans were furious when news broke of its cancellation following the Canadian release of the third season finale. Online campaigns kicked off with #renewannewithane as both Netflix and CBC were bombarded with fans commenting on the hashtag. The fury didn’t stop there as the protest escalated and fans raised enough money to rent numerous billboards, from Toronto’s Yonge Dundas Square to New York City’s Times Square. Even McNulty herself visited them, as seen on her Instagram.
“Society” (2019 - 2019)
Upon returning from a failed field trip, a group of high school students find their hometown empty and its population gone. Now teenagers must learn how to create and manage their new community by figuring out what happened to their city.
Where Society was originally renewed for a second season, but unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic halted production and by August 2020, Netflix canceled the renewal due to increased scheduling issues. Fans were shocked and upset that the show ended with a cliffhanger and so many unanswered questions. Unfortunately, as with many other canceled programs, the wave of digital protests (#ReturnSociety) and petitions weren’t enough.
“I don’t like it” (2020 - 2020)
Growing up story after Sidney NovakSophia Lillis), this story follows her as she faces the complexities of high school, relationships, and family life. Just when her problems seem too big, life throws Sydney another turning point when she begins to develop telekinetic superpowers.
Where it was also renewed for a second season, I don’t agree with this there was another unfortunate cancellation due to the circumstances of the pandemic. Expressing their frustration online, many fans were outraged that another show that brought LGBTQ+ stories to the forefront was being sacrificed. Despite their campaigns and popular petitions circulating online, no renewal has been announced.
‘GLOW’ (2017- 2019)
Inspired by true events, this series chronicles the trials and tribulations of the 1980s Los Angeles-based women’s wrestling league, Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling (aka GLOW).
With many accolades and a high level of fan approval, SHINE‘the renewal for a fourth and final season was not unexpected. What happened was its sudden cancellation due to complications with filming due to the pandemic. In a wrestling show, it was simply impossible to film anything with strict safety rules. As fans flooded the internet with the #SaveGLOW hashtag and active petitions, they had to eventually come to terms with the hopeful possibility for a future film.
‘Daredevil’ (2015 - 2018)
Blinded by chemicals as a child, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) gains superhuman control over his other senses, allowing him to see the world in his own way. As an adult, he works as a lawyer by day and uses his powers at night to seek justice - as a vigilante vigilante.
DaredevilThe initial cancellation drew ire from fans. Fans praised for their gritty depiction of a beloved Marvel story (as well as other things) have of course taken to social media to express their anger, and for years they have been posting the #SaveDaredevil hashtag all over Marvel’s pages. Luckily for them, D23 Expo 2022 has finally put Marvel fans at ease with the announcement of the Disney+ reboot. Daredevil: Born Again. Where there are some concerns about whether there will be any canonical sequels to the Netflix universe, fans are simply thrilled that this story has been given new life.
