More Taylor Sheridan Shows You Can Watch Now
Here is a list of just a few of Taylor Sheridan’s shows that also delve into historical concepts like Westward Expansion on an operatic scale.
yellowstone - The first of this series, yellowstone follows the Dutton family in the present day. To date, the Duttons own the largest ranch in Montana. Because of this, the Dutton family often clashes with developers, residents, and the bordering Broken Rock Indian Reservation. Sheridan illuminates the Midwestern countryside and proves it’s fertile ground for storytelling. Although they are not royalty in a fantasy land like Game of Thrones or a family dealing with the high-profile world of media moguls such as succession, the show still carries weight and creates tension from life on the ranch. With a cast including the likes of Kevin Costner and Wes Bentleythis is one of Sheridan’s finest works.

1883 - Once 1923 traces the origins of the Dutton family, 1883 goes back in time even further to find out how their land was conquered. The show begins with the Dutton family leaving their home in Tennessee and heading to Fort Worth, Texas. Along the way, they join a wagon of European immigrants and instead change course to Montana, where they eventually establish the Yellowstone Ranch. The show confronts the post-Civil War reality of the South, as the Duttons still harbor resentment over the loss of the South. It also deals with the violent takeover of the native land and the catastrophic ripple effect it had on American society. 1883 proved that the Dutton family and their struggles are worth exploring anytime, anywhere.

Tulsa King - While Sheridan’s focus on American expansion was usually limited to cowboys, he’s changing that with his new show, Tulsa King. Made with Boardwalk Empire creator, Terence Winteracting as showrunner, talks about Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone), the leader of the New York mafia, who had just served a 25-year prison sentence. After his release, his superiors send him to Tulsa so that he can establish criminal activities there, although he does not know anything about this place. If there were any East Coasters who were still unconvinced of Sheridan’s credentials, it looks like a show to stop them dead in their tracks.
