Russian reservists fighting in Ukraine received memorable New Year’s “gifts”, including sugar, porridge, canned food and poems glorifying a heroic death for the Motherland, the wife of one of the soldiers said, quoted by the Important Stories portal.
The New Year’s gift set for the military also included soap, a candle and a spruce branch decorated with the Russian flag. I even sent money to my husband a couple of times.
Vladimir Putin on September 21 issued a decree on partial mobilization for the war with Ukraine and threatened to “use all means.” Soon after the president’s decision, there were many reports of organizational chaos in the military registration and enlistment offices. Among others, disabled people with no military experience and even the dead were drafted into the army. Numerous cases of drunkenness among conscripts were reported, as well as the terrible living conditions of the reservists and the low quality of the weapons issued to them.
