On Sunday, December 4, following the national team of the Netherlands and the team of Argentina, the reigning world champions French made their way to the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup.
World Cup 2022. 1/8 finals
France - Poland - 3:1
Goals: Zhira (44), Mbappe (74, 90+1) - Lewandowski (90+9, from the penalty spot).
For the meeting with the Poles, the coach of the “tricolors” Didier Deschamps did not put up a single player from the starting lineup, who lost in the last match in the group of Tunisia (0:1). Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was among those who appeared on the field from the first minutes, who for the 142nd time put on the goalkeeper’s jersey of the French national team and repeated the achievement of the record holder in the number of matches for the national team, Liliam Thuram.
After a very active start to the meeting, the French soon eased the pressure on the goal, perhaps the best goalkeeper of the 2022 World Cup, Wojciech Szczesny (two repulsed penalties and 90 percent of shots on goal during the group stage!) and almost paid for it. God only knows how Lloris and the defender of the “tricolor” Varan managed to knock the ball off the goal line after two “shots” by the Poles in a row, only God knows.
And yet, just before the break, France killed. Milan striker Giroud opened beautifully in the Kadry penalty area and shot irresistibly, becoming the top scorer in the history of the national team with 52 goals (former record holder Thierry Henry scored 51 times for the Tricolor).
And in the second half, the rampant PSG forward Kylian Mbappe took over the job, thanks to the “double” who single-handedly led the 2022 World Cup scorer race with 5 goals.
The only thing the Poles managed to do was to avoid defeat at the end of stoppage time. But the little son of Wojciech Szczesny did not seem to be very pleased with this fact. The famous dad immediately after the final whistle had to comfort the baby.

By the way, Robert Lewandowski’s penalty kick, with 78 goals, allowed him to enter the top ten scorers of national teams in history with 78 goals (the Portuguese record holder Cristiano Ronaldo has 118 goals).
In the quarter-finals of the World Cup, where France made it to the third tournament in a row, Didier Deschamps’ wards will play on December 10 in El Howrah with the winner of the England Senegal pair.
Recall that the other pairs of the 1/8 finals of the 2022 World Cup formed: Japan - Croatia and Brazil - South Korea (December 5); Morocco - Spain and Portugal - Switzerland (December 6).
Earlier reported that the German national team sensationally flew out of the World Cup.
