The European Volleyball Championship is not only emotions associated with the performances of the Polish national team. The coach of the German national team is Michal Winiarski, the 2014 world champion. The former captain of the “white-reds” has very successfully opened Euro 2023 with his team.
Admittedly, after the Nations League this year, coach Michal Winiarski could have had a sour face. The coach of the German national volleyball team managed to lead his team to only three victories in thirteen matches of the intercontinental stage. Our western neighbors, apparently, donated the VNL for the sake of the European Championship.
Volleyball players of the German national team are invincible at the European Championship
This is evidenced by the results achieved by Winyarski’s wards in the group stage of the current championship of the Old Continent. The Germans won three out of three matches in Group A. The Pole-led team beat Estonia 3-0, improved with the same result (3-0) against Switzerland and beat Belgium 3-2.
Interestingly, one of the undisputed stars of the European Championship from Germany is Georg Groser. The 38-year-old striker scored 22 points in the aforementioned match against Belgium, becoming the true leader of the German team’s attack.
However, in the last two group fights, Viniarski’s team will have to face difficulties in the heavyweight division. Serbs and Italians will stand in the way of our western neighbors. If the German team continues to play confidently, perhaps it will be able to surprise in one of the matches. Let’s add that after the first part of the tournament group A will intersect with group C, i.e. … Polish. Therefore, it is possible that the Pole’s team will face the White-Reds.
Michal Winiarski as a role model for Oleksandr Slivka
It is worth recalling the special words that one of the leaders of the current Polish national team said about Vinyarza. Oleksandr Slivka did not hide the fact that he remembers Vinyarsky’s game for the national team with his youth. He was the idol of today’s national team player under the leadership of Nikola Grbic and the captain of the Azota ZAKSA Group Kendzezhin-Kozle.
“Definitely, he was a complete volleyball player. Virtually no weaknesses. He was my role model when it came to being a volleyball player. I always wanted to be that kind of player. Although not so good, because I don’t think I can put myself on a par with Vinyarsky. Or even be close to this level, remembering his performances for the Polish national team or in clubs. And I’m talking about the very concept of a volleyball player who has no weaknesses, - the owner of the team admitted in an interview with “Simply”.
Germany will play their last two group stage matches on Tuesday (Serbia, 21:00) and Wednesday (Italy, 21:00) respectively.
