The former football player of the Latvian national team was killed by a serious illness: he was 38 years old

Ex-football player of a number of Latvian clubs and the national team Gints Freimanis died at the age of 38. In 2021, the former athlete was diagnosed with skin cancer - melanoma, and Gints failed to overcome the serious illness. Croatian football coach Miroslav Blazevic has died of cancer.

At the adult level, Freimanis made his debut in 2003 at the age of 18, starting to play in Latvia for Viola. Then Gints changed a number of clubs at home, defending the colors of Jelgava, Ventspils, Dizhvanagi, Jurmala and Riga, also played abroad in the top division of Ireland and the regional league of Germany. During his career, he won one trophy, having won the Latvian Cup with Jelgava in 2014.

Freimanis also played for the Latvian national team, having spent 13 matches in its composition. He scored the only goal in the T-shirt of the national team in the qualifying match for the 2018 World Cup against Hungary.
