The 2022/23 season is officially over. In the last match, in the bronze medal game, Asseco Resovia Rzeszów defeated Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie. For Rzeszow, this is the first medal since 2016 and a ticket to the Champions League. A disappointing off-podium spot was noted for this waterlogging.
Duel number five on Tuesday was supposed to answer the question of who more deserved a place on the PlusLiga podium. Asseco Resovia Rzeszów and Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie had two victories each, and the match in Hala Podpromie was to decide the fate of the bronze medal. The hosts from Podkarpackie became the best team in the PlusLiga main stage.
Tied starting set and gap in second set
It is worth recalling that the fight for bronze began with the victory of Aluron CMC in Rzeszow (3:2). Then the team of coach Michal Viniarski lost to Asseco Resovia, who were defeated by injuries both at home (1:3) and away (0:3). The Zawiercie saved themselves last Saturday (May 13) by going 0-2 to the final triumph after a tie-break. After winning in Zawiercie, both teams traveled to Rzeszow for the last match of the series.
The first set announced that the match at Podpromye could be very interesting. Forwards Maciej Muzay and receiver Klemen Chebulzh returned to Resovia. Thanks to this, coach Giampaolo Medea had more room to maneuver in determining the squad. This also affected the result. Important balls were completed by Muzaj, Cebul could count on the support of Tomasz Piotrowski, who helped (by assumption) in the reception.
David Konarski disappointed the guests. The striker of the first two sets could save on losses. If in the first he had problems with efficiency, then in the second the entire Aluron CMC team fell into a deep crisis. Instead of thinking about repeating last season’s success (i.e. the bronze medal), the guests had to find a recipe for a successful return for Tuesday’s match as soon as possible.
The magnificent Asseco Resovia Rzeszów series is worthy of the weight of a medal
In, as it turned out, the last set the hosts had literally from the very beginning to pursue their rivals. However, the people of Rzeszow showed real character. So you can call the series, which they went from 16:19 to 20:19.
The hosts did not give up such an advantage, and in many respects thanks to, among other things, serving Muzaj, or simply the worst sports team from Zawiercie. Aluron CMC Warta didn’t deserve a bronze medal in what it showed on Tuesday evening in Rzeszow.
