TAD chose Robert Lewandowski. The captain of the Polish national team was threatened with a three-match suspension.

The Court of Arbitration (TAD) rejected FC Barcelona’s appeal and decided to uphold the three-match sanctions against Robert Lewandowski. Because of this decision, the captain of the Polish national team will miss meetings with Atlético Madrid, Getafe and Girona.

Representatives of FC Barcelona fought to the last for the removal of the 34-year-old football player, which resulted in a preventive penalty suspension, thanks to which the Pole was able to play in the match with Espanyol Barcelona. The appeal of the Catalan Duma did not bring the expected result, and the club eventually lost the case in the Administrative Court of Sports (TAD), which ruled on the merits of the case.

Red card case for Robert Lewandowski

The case concerns the situation in the match with Osasuna, when Robert Lewandowski received two yellow and, accordingly, a red card, and when leaving the field, the striker showed gestures that the referee perceived as insulting. The Pole said in an interview that this gesture was towards the coach, not the referee, but these translations had no effect.

Representatives of FC Barcelona appealed to the appeal body with a request to cancel the penalty for the striker, handed down on November 16 by the La Liga committee, which punished the Pole with a disqualification in one match for a red card (two yellow cards in the 11th and 31st minutes). and two more - in the opinion of the judge - for disrespectful and indiscriminate attitude towards judges in accordance with the application of Article 124 of the RFEF Disciplinary Code.

On 20 December, the club filed an appeal with CAS, which dismissed the injunction on 23 December. On 29 December, the Catalan Duma appealed the decision, with the result that the fine was deferred pending an appeal by FC Barcelona. On Wednesday, January 4, the club’s appeal was rejected, so the three-match penalty kicks in this weekend.
