Netflix presented the trailer trial by fireupcoming mini-series following the 1997 Uphaar Cinema tragedy of a married couple’s struggle for justice against mass corruption. 59 people have died and more than 100 people have been injured in a fire at a famous cinema in the Indian capital. , New Delhi.
trial by fire based on a book written Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamurtiwho lost both their children in the fire. The former boy from the poster of the original Bollywood movie, Abhay Deolplays Shekhara, and sacred games alum Rajshree Deshpande played by Neelam. The Krishnamurti discover that the tragedy could have been prevented if certain systemic flaws had not been corrected in the theater. They discover that the suspected culprits are powerful industrialists. Sunil and Gopal Ansal — paid the police and other authorities to avoid charges as they sought to expand the scope of their business at a time of great economic prosperity in India.
With a little encouragement from Krishnamurti, a group of relatives of other victims was assembled and took the fight straight to the top. They face bullying and setbacks along the way, but as Neelam says in the trailer, they fight because parents never turn their backs on their kids, especially when they’re not around.
The trailer presents the tragedy in gritty realism, but does not ignore the sentimentality at the heart of this story. “They think they can push us around and there’s nothing we can do about it; that we are too small to matter. But little do they know that when we come together, we give each other strength,” Shekhar says of the footage of the arrests and organized candlelight marches in memory of the dead.
With shades of both HBO Chernobyl and own Netflix Delhi Crime, trial by fire looks like a delicate series about a tragedy, the consequences of which are still being felt. The Uphaar Cinema sits virtually untouched in the heart of the city, frozen in time to this day.
