How do I access my child’s online patient account? We explain step by step

Must read

While it may seem that the parent will automatically have access to the patient’s online account, this is not always the case. We tell you what you need to do to get it.

  • Who does not have access to an online patient account?
  • What do I need to do to access my child’s IKP?
  • How to get into your child’s ICP?
  • How do I allow the other parent to view my child’s IKP?

Through the Internet Patient Account (IKP), you can check your health information as well as your children’s information. Parental access to the patient’s online account is extremely important. Thus, the guardian has access to all the data of his child. Prescriptions, referrals and treatment history are available. Obtaining such access (if the parent does not have it) is also important in connection with the start of free HPV vaccinations, which means the possibility of registering a child for them, including through the ICP.

Who does not have access to an online patient account?

There are times when parents do not see their child’s health information on this site because they do not have access to their ICP. What could it be? There are several reasons:

  • the child is not registered with health insurance,

  • the child is insured by the other parent and has not authorized the person to view,

  • the data has not yet been published, because the child has just been insured (this may take up to 21 days),

  • such person is not the legal guardian of the child,

  • the child has his own insurance title (this happens, for example, in the case of seasonal work, sports scholarships, disability pensions),

  • the child is now 18 years of age, and as a result, their ICP becomes an adult account.

However, if a parent is not sure that their child is correctly registered for health insurance and suspects that this may be the reason why the child’s online account is not available, they can submit a verification request to the voivodeship branch of the National Health Fund.

What do I need to do to access my child’s IKP?

The parent must have access to the child’s account from their online patient account level. If not, check that:

  • the child is covered by health insurance (this must be confirmed by the payer of contributions),

  • the child is not insured by another parent, such as a spouse or guardian (the latter may allow the child to view the IKP),

  • the child is properly registered for insurance (contact the NFZ office and check health insurance status).

It should also be remembered that every time a job change results in the child being taken off health insurance and thus the parent loses access to their online patient account. In such a situation, the child should be re-registered for insurance with a new employer.

How to get into your child’s ICP?

To access a child’s account from the parent’s online patient account, first go to the Menu tab, then Permissions, and then Your Children’s Accounts. There should be visible all the data of children who are not yet 18 years old. Accessing an online patient account allows you to:

  • get a child’s prescription or referral,

  • check the dosage of medicines,

  • Arrange vaccinations for your child

  • Download your child’s Union COVID (UCC) certificate.

How do I allow the other parent to view my child’s IKP?

First, the parent must log into their online patient account, go to the “Permissions” tab, and then “Your Children’s Accounts”. Then click the “List of Guardians” tab on the ward’s details tile. A list of people who have access to your child’s account will appear. The parent will have the opportunity to appoint additional guardians - then you need to provide the details of the authorized person. Finally, you must confirm the entire operation. Such permission may also be revoked at any time. In order for one parent to authorize the other parent, the parent must use their online patient account.
