Setting a trap in the Ghostface Sanctuary
The action takes place about a year after the events of 2022. SCREAM, Creek VI follows the main survivors of the latest Woodsboro massacre as they try to build a new life in New York City. Each member of the Core Four is trying to cope with what they have been through in their own way. Brothers and sisters Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy Mix-Martin (Jasmine Savoy Brown) are still addicted to cinema and went to college to study film. Tara Carpenter (English)Jenna Ortega) wants to pretend that nothing happened, but Tara’s sister, Sam (Melissa Barrera), is still struggling with the fact that she is the daughter of the original Ghostface, Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich).
WITH SCREAM, Sam is haunted by visions of Billy and is afraid of becoming a murderer like her father. As she confesses during a therapy session, Sam felt it was right to stab her ex-boyfriend Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid), the last person to wear the Ghostface mask. Sam had to kill Richie to protect her sister and friends, but she is still shocked at how easy it was to take the life of another person. To complicate matters, a series of internet rumors have turned Sam into a pariah as many people now think she is responsible for SCREAMMassacre at Woodsboro. According to these conspiracy theories, Sam killed everyone and put the blame on Richie, who is actually innocent.
A few months after arriving in New York, the Mane Four are targeted by the new Ghostface. As the killer tells Sam through an ominous phone call, they are looking for the truth and want to expose that Sam is the killer. It looks like the new Ghostface has bought into the conspiracy theories that are circulating the internet and is determined to make Sam suffer. Unfortunately, anyone who gets between Ghostface and his primary target will be killed with no remorse.
While investigating new Ghostface attacks, Core Four gets help from Police Detective Bailey (Dermot Mulroney), the father of the Carpenter sisters’ new roommate, Quinn (Liana Liberato). Chad also has a new roommate, Ethan (Jack Champion), while Mindy is currently dating a girl named Anika (Devin Nekoda). Finally, Sam also dates Danny (Josh Segarra), a man who lives opposite her hallway. The “Main Four” can also count on support Scream 4Kirby (Hayden Panettiere), who became an FBI agent, and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox).
Thanks to Gale’s exploratory skills, the group discovers a hideout that the new Ghostface is using as a lair, with every previous assassin’s costumes and weapons on display as collectibles. The shrine contains a lot of police evidence and it is clear that the owners were wealthy or well connected. The building apparently belonged to Jason (Tony Revolori) and Greg, two Ghostface wannabes who died at the hands of a new killer. It looks like a new Ghostface has overtaken the area, leaving masks belonging to previous killers at every murder scene. The entire site is also protected by magnetic locks and security cameras, making it an impregnable fortress.
After Quinn and Anika are killed and Gale is sent to the hospital in critical condition, the survivors decide to switch places and use Ghostface’s shrine as a cage to trap the killer and kill him. The group splits up on the subway, causing Mindy to be stabbed and sent to the hospital, while Ethan stays behind to care for her. Sam then also decides to dump Danny since she doesn’t really know him. This means that only Tara, Sam, and Chad make it to the temple, where Kirby is waiting for them. However, once they get there, Detective Bailey makes an alarming call to Sam, informing him that Kirby has been fired from the FBI following a mental breakdown caused by the latest Woodsboro murders. Kirby appears to be the new Ghostface, and the survivors have locked themselves in the temple with the assassin.
Scream VI is all about legacy
From the moment she first appears in Ghostface’s sanctuary, Sam begins to see Billy in visions. The ghost of her father pushes her to embrace her murderous nature. After she receives a call from Detective Bailey, Sam is attacked and stabbed by a man in a Ghostface costume, who she assumes is Kirby. Sam manages to escape and meets Tara and Chad, who have just shared their first kiss. The trio fight off Ghostface until a second assassin appears, defeating Chad. There are always two killers, except for Scream 3so it makes sense for Kirby to have a backup.
The situation escalates when Detective Bailey gets to the temple. Just then, Kirby appears, covered in blood, claiming to have been attacked by Ghostface. Consumed by his grief and convinced that Kirby is lying, Detective Bailey shoots the FBI agent. This is all a gimmick, as Bailey is the mastermind behind Ghostface’s latest attacks. And for the first time in the franchise, there are three killers around. Bailey, Ethan and Quinn, who is alive after all. Bailey had three children: Ethan, Quinn and Richie. And now the whole family wants to take revenge on the people who killed Richie. That’s why they spread rumors online against Sam, planning to frame her for the Ghostface Massacres in New York.
Bailey explains that the temple was actually Richie, who managed to get hold of the police’s evidence thanks to his father being a detective. Bailey changed the ownership registry just to lure everyone in by investigating dead Ghostface wannabes. Bailey also wants Sam to put on the Ghostface mask that belonged to Billy so he can show the world that she is the killer.
Sam starts teasing Bailey and his family, telling them that Richie was a coward for letting his girlfriend Amber (Mikey Madison), get all the kills. When Bailey seems distracted enough, Tara and Sam attack the assassins with bricks. Kirby also wakes up and joins the fight, firing at Bailey. Unfortunately, Ethan stabs Kirby; luckily, Sam pulls a knife from Kirby’s stomach to stab Ethan.
Tara and Sam try to escape from the assassins, switching blows and thrusts in search of a way out of the Ghostface Shrine. Tara confronts Ethan and plunges a knife into the boy’s eye. Sam also manages to put a bullet in Quinn’s forehead, leaving only Bailey alive. Granting Bailey’s wish, Sam dons Billy’s costume and calls the detective. She uses the app to mimic Ghostface’s voice and teases Bailey until she can surprise him and stab him multiple times. At first, Sam is reluctant to kill Bailey, as he feels he must prove that she is not a killer like her father. However, with Tara’s support, Sam ends Bailey’s life.
It wouldn’t be scream the film is without the final panic, and Ethan is resurrected from the dead, only to be killed yet again. Both Tara and Sam are killers, but unlike the ghosts of the past, they only kill to protect their family, not to fulfill selfish desires. That’s why Sam drops Billy’s mask on the floor at the end of the movie, when she’s finally come to terms with her heritage.
After all is said and done, Danny leads the police to the temple, proving that he really was trying to help. Chad is also sent to the hospital, and although he is in a terrible condition, he will probably survive. Kirby, Mindy, and Gale are traumatized for life after being attacked again by various Ghostfaces, but, shockingly, all of the outdated characters ended up in the credits. So for now Creek VI is the bloodiest film in the franchise, the biggest surprise is how many people are left alive. Moreover, this time there were three killers.
