What is “Bloodsucking Bastards” ABOUT?

There is not much difference between a vampire lord and a greedy manager. They are both power-hungry monsters who want nothing more than to suck the energy out of their employees and turn them into lifeless corporate tools. That’s exactly what Brian James O’ConnellX Bloodsucking bastards talks about the aggressive takeover of the sales office by the vampire Max, played by Pascal.

As the movie begins, we are taken to a sales office filled with useless slackers who do anything but work. People in the office play games, take long lunch breaks, work late, and basically find new ways to be less productive than ever. This leads to the head of the company hiring a new sales manager, the ambitious Max, whose priority is to increase productivity, even if it means killing some people.

Max’s strategy is to turn everyone into vampires who can work without rest and will have a supernatural compulsion to obey Max’s orders. And since offices are often unhealthy workplaces devoid of windows and sunlight, they are the perfect environment for a productive group of vampires to boost sales and beat the competition.

Like a horror comedy Bloodsucking bastards isn’t afraid to joke about vampire clichés and spill gallons of blood on walls as the few survivors of Max’s takeover attempt to kill their new boss and literally save their necks. While the movie is far from perfect, it got a lot of credit for finding funny ways to show that corporate culture isn’t much different from some supernatural threats. And the main reason why Bloodsucking bastards might still be a great B-movie to watch, it’s Pascal who spends the time of his life bringing Max back to un-life.

IN Bloodsucking bastards, Max Pascal is the ideal model of an effective sales manager. Ever since he first takes the stage, Max has been making grandiose speeches about selling with seduction, setting unattainable goals, and subtly threatening company employees. Max is cocky, opinionated, and pretty much an asshole. On top of that, he’s a womanizer who holds a grudge and tries to make people who cross paths with him suffer a fate worse than death. In short, Max is a despicable monster who deserves a stake in the heart, as are some of the bosses we all had the misfortune to work with.

Like a satire on the working environment Bloodsucking bastards can only work with a ruthless boss who treats people as assets and never puts the well-being of his team ahead of performance. And Pascal is ready to play the role with a smile on his face.

The fact that Max is a vampire adds even more fun to the story, closing the loop that began with Buffy. Because for now Bloodsucking bastards still a low-budget horror comedy, the film spends every penny to bring the carnage to the screen. Thus, Max is not only the worst boss, but also a mean and skinny killing machine, ready to slit throats and break bones. And it’s great to see Pascal unleash all of his chaotic energy in this underrated film.

It is also curious to note how his time in Bloodsucking bastards probably prepared Pascal to play another Max a few years later. That’s because in 2019 we saw Pascal take on the role of Maxwell “Max Lord” Lorenzano, a failed businessman who became the Dream Stone and the main villain Wonder Woman 1984. Bloodsucking bastards was released in 2015, a year after Pascal played his breakout role in the fourth season of the HBO series. Game of Thrones. Nevertheless, the horror comedy went unnoticed, and no one understood the strange coincidence that both characters of Max, played by Pascal, are very similar. Wonder Woman 1984Max from Max is also an enterprising capitalist who is willing to do whatever it takes to succeed. And just like in Bloodsucking bastardsPascal outshines everyone Wonder Woman 1984 giving the villain a whimsical energy that is nice to look at.

Characters such as The MandalorianDean Djarin and Last of usJoel helped create certain expectations for Pascal’s roles, as we all love to see the star act as a surrogate father. And it’s undeniable that Pascal is great both with morally ambiguous characters and as part of a dynamic duo, as happens in his main series and The Unbearable Weight of Huge Talent. However, films like Bloodsucking bastards emphasized the incredible scope of Pascal’s games, as they serve as solid proof that a star can do almost anything he wants.

Finally, Bloodsucking bastards makes one damn argument for letting Pascal play more villains in the future, as he can be as funny and menacing as few other actors. So view Bloodsucking bastards can quench the vampire thirst left over from that episode with Buddy. But it will also leave you wanting more and excited to see where Pascal comes next.
