On the night of Sunday, March 26, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas (USA), a professional boxing evening took place, in the main fight of which the interim WBC super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) American David Benavidez (27 wins, 23 of them - by knockout), who had beaten a polyglot from Canada earlier in the fight for the title, defeated his compatriot Caleb Plant (22 wins, 13 of them by knockout, 2 losses).
The starting rounds of the fight, which was attended by boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, unexpectedly passed with the advantage of Plant, although the favorite of Benavidez left marks on Caleb’s face with powerful single blows.

But in the second half of the fight, David completely took over the advantage, and towards the end of the fight, Plant frankly survived with a broken nose and a cut. As a result, Benavides defeated his opponent by unanimous decision (115:113, 116:112, 117:111) and, retaining the belt, became the mandatory contender for the WBC title, which is now owned by the famous Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

According to the referee’s notes, the ministers of Themis gave Plant only 4 out of 12 rounds.

We add that Caleb Plant, who previously lost only to Saul Alvarez, experienced two family tragedies by the age of 30. The boxer’s mother was shot dead by a police officer after she threatened a spear with a knife. The daughter of the American Alia died at 19 months of pneumonia.
Earlier reported that the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and Briton Tyson Fury was disrupted.
