It’s been a minute since we last saw Dev Patel on our screens in the new project, but this will change soon. According to Deadline, Patel will headline a new show called key man as its host and executive producer. The new project fits in with Patel’s recent preference for indie productions, as the show hails from Miramax Television, which has recently shown strong interest in developing content for the Middle East and North Africa.
key man will be based on real events and will tell about the defeat of a Pakistani businessman. Arif Naqvi, founder of Dubai-based private equity firm Abraaj Group. Patel will play the charismatic and sensational Naqvi, who successfully swindled unsuspecting investors for years before his luck ran out. Armed with an impressive mind and infectious charisma, Naqvi tricked some of the world’s top elite, including billionaire businessmen, politicians and religious figures, into fraudulent investments on the pretext that their money would help solve global problems like hunger and poverty. He became his own undoing after failing to deliver on many of the lofty promises he made to his investors, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Naqvi has since been sentenced to prison by the Dubai government and is awaiting extradition from the UK to the US to face new fraud charges.
Although the series’ official synopsis has yet to be revealed, key man likely to try to demystify Naqvi’s scam schemes. Real-life series focusing on disgraced public figures continue to gain popularity among TV fans, and Patel’s name key man could potentially add charm.
