new marvel series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur tells the adventures of teenage supergenius and superheroine Lunella Lafayette (Diamond White) and her giant, cuddly, fire-breathing buddy T. Rex Devil Dinosaur (Fred Tatasciore). While the two may spend their nights and weekends fighting crime, by day Lunella is a normal 13-year-old with school, homework, and, of course, friends. In the new short, which Collider is happy to share exclusively, viewers get to know Lunella’s social circle.
The short begins with White and Tatasciore talking about what viewers can expect from the new series and what their personal highlights of the project are. White talks about how audiences will walk away from a superhero show with an understanding of community and culture, while Tatasciore talks about taking a creature that is objectively scary and turning that concept on its head. While the duo may play the two main characters and their friendship is at the heart of the show, the short film also devotes a lot of time to the other teenagers who make up Lunella’s friends at school.
Group leader - Casey Calderon (Liebe Barer), Lunella’s publicist/social media manager turned best friend who is by far the most playful of the group. According to Barer, it’s Casey who helps Lunella and Devil Dinosaur see their full potential as a crime-fighting duo. Also featured in the short film Michael Ciminowho plays the “cool clown” Eduardo, and Utkarsh Ambudkar, who plays Anand, the second smartest kid in the school - after Lunella, of course.

While a lot of time is spent with Lunella and her friends on the show, her family and community also play a huge role in her story. Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur boasts an incredible cast that brings the story to life. For Lunella’s family in the series Alfre Woodard like her grandmother Mimi, Sashir Zamata like her mother Andria, Jermain Fowler like her father James, and Gary Anthony Williams like her grandfather Pops. In addition, the series will also feature Craig Robinson, Omid Abtahi, Jennifer Hudson, Alison BrieAnd Laurence Fishburne. Fishburne is also one of the creators of the series along with Helen Sugland, with the series’ catchy music composed by the award-winning musical multigiphenate Rafael Saadiq.
