In a vote held on Friday evening, the deputies adopted, among other things: an amendment to this year’s budget, increasing the deficit. They also rejected Senate amendments to the law to make the 14th pension permanent.

On Friday evening, the deputies voted for a bill to amend the budget for this year. After the changes, the spending limit will not exceed PLN 693.4 billion, budget revenues should reach PLN 601.4 billion, and the state budget deficit should reach a maximum of PLN 92 billion.

Amendment to the budget

The need for amendments to this year’s budget was already announced by Finance Minister Magdalena Rzeczkowska in March. “The experience of the last three years has taught us that it is difficult to predict what events may occur, what assistance or solutions will be required. We all hope that the worst is over, that prices, for example, for energy raw materials, will stabilize. Food prices will also be lower, Rzeczkowska said in an interview with the Polish Press Agency.

The budget law, adopted by the government at the end of last year, assumed revenues of PLN 604.5 billion and expenditures not exceeding PLN 672.5 billion. The deficit should not exceed PLN 68 billion.

The law on the introduction of the 14th old-age pension as a permanent annual allowance has returned to the Saeima. The Senate amendments included: increasing the size of the 14th old-age pension to 120 percent. lowest benefit. The Senate also wants the income criterion to be increased to PLN 3,900.

The Senate also wants to change the timing of payments. According to the adopted law, the decision must be made by the government every year through the relevant resolution. According to the Senate, Parliament should vote for it. All the amendments were rejected by the deputies, and now the bill will fall on the president’s table.
