Penske Motorsport’s Porsche cars will be running at Le Mans this year for good reason. Donations will go to organizations whose priority is caring for sick children.
During the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 10-11, 2023, the Porsche Penske Motorsport factory team will enter three Porsche 963s, each in a special livery that we wrote about on Auto.Wprost.pl.
The livery pays homage to important colors from Porsche’s racing history and thus celebrates 75 years of Porsche sports cars and 100 years of Le Mans 24 Hours. The new hybrid prototypes will be raced for a good cause: For every race lap, manufacturer Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen will donate 750 euros to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Porsche sports cars. The entire amount raised will be used to help seriously ill children around the world.
If all goes well, there will be 1140 laps.
After the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the funds raised will be distributed among three organizations: Kinderherzen retten eV, Interplast Germany eV and the Ferry Porsche Foundation. During the legendary marathon, the best cars in the hypercar class will cover up to 380 laps along the Circuit des 24 Heures track, which is more than 13.6 km long. Thus, under ideal conditions, the three factory prototypes presented by Porsche Penske Motorsport can complete a total of 1,140 laps.
“The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the most important sporting events in the world and the biggest challenge in endurance racing. For Porsche, Le Mans is one of the most challenging testing grounds for new technical solutions that will eventually go into series production,” said Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board of Porsche Research and Development. – On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Le Mans, we want to send a message and draw attention to selected organizations that are particularly involved in social issues.
