Data for the first half of 2022 in the European Union shows that in the category of commercial vehicles - vans, trucks and buses - we are dealing with a crisis.

From January to June 2022, sales of new commercial vehicles in the European Union fell by 20.3%. This is the twelfth consecutive month of decline, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) said.

In June 2022, 144,210 new commercial vehicles were registered in the European Union, representing 22.5 percent. less (on an annualized basis). The number of trucks and buses increased compared to the same period last year. The drop in sales of vans had a negative impact on the overall results. This segment accounts for 80 percent. all commercial vehicle registrations. New commercial vehicle registrations in the EU in June fell by 26.8% to a total of 115,080 units, according to ACEA data. The negative results for the region were reflected in four major markets: Spain (-32.4%), Germany (-31.6%), Italy (-25.3%) and France (-21.9%). In Poland, communications departments registered 5,524 vehicles this month, up 24.1%. less than in June last year.

New trucks weighing 16 tons or more

In June 2022 - according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association - 22,482 new trucks were sold in the EU, up 4.6%. more than last year. The largest increase was recorded in Croatia (+56.3%). Three of the four main markets in this car segment turned out to be positive: Spain (+30.8%), Italy (+10.2%) and Germany (+0.1%). France recorded a decline of 8.2 percent. Poland, the largest market for trucks of 16 tons or more in Central Europe, contributed to the region’s positive dynamics with a double-digit growth of 10.4 percent. up to 2559 registered copies.

In the first half of 2022, new heavy commercial vehicle registrations across the EU increased slightly by 0.4%. and amounted to 128,501 units. The four largest markets in Western Europe showed mixed results. Spain (+5.9%) and France (+2.6%) recorded growth, while Germany (-3.3%) recorded declines. In Italy, the number of registrations remained at the same level as in the first half of 2021. During this period, 14,417 vehicles were registered in Poland, which is 2.8% more. less from year to year.

New medium and heavy commercial vehicles over 3.5 tons

In June 2022, registrations of medium and heavy commercial vehicles in the EU increased by 2.2%. up to 26,736 pcs. The largest markets in Western Europe showed mixed results: Spain (+25.6%), Italy (+5%), France (-10.9%), Germany (-4.2%). In Poland, 2,802 vehicles were added to the databases in June, representing 11.1%. more.

In the first half of 2022, 150,137 new medium and heavy commercial vehicles were registered in the entire European Union, down 2.5%. compared to the same period last year. Among the major markets, only Spain boasts 5.1%. growth. The largest decline was recorded in Germany (-7.6%), followed by France (-1.5%) and Italy (-1.1%).

New medium and heavy duty buses over 3.5 tons

In June, the number of registered new buses in the EU decreased by 8.7%, reaching 2394 units. Some countries in the region recorded triple-digit growth - Portugal (+953.1%), Slovenia (+800.0%), Czech Republic (+172.3%). Four key Western European markets showed mixed results: Spain (+2.5%), France (-27.1%), Germany (-36.7%), Italy (+27.4%). June brought 109 registrations in Poland (-27.3%).

In the first half of 2022, sales of new buses in the EU rose by 2.8 percent to 13,222 vehicles. The four main markets showed mixed results: Spain (+46.2%), France (+0.2%), Germany (-20.5%), Italy (-10.5%). During this period, 605 copies were registered in Poland (-8.9%).
