Each nation has its own national dishes, which are always present on the festive table, including various sweets, desserts, and pastries. European pastries have a very distant tradition and are predominantly sweet spicy confections. Odessa Olga Buravchukwho lives in Germany, shared a recipe for spicy star-shaped macaroons - Zimtsterne.
Ingredients:
3 egg whites
350g ground almonds (more may be needed)
200 g powdered sugar
3 tsp cinnamon
1 or 2 packets of vanilla sugar
1 tsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
Almonds can be taken peeled and unpeeled, it does not affect the taste, and cinnamon still colors the dough. Instead of vanilla sugar, you can add vanillin on the tip of a knife.
Cooking
Mix almonds and cinnamon in a bowl. Beat 2 proteins with a pinch of salt and 100 g of powdered sugar.
Stir the beaten egg whites evenly into the almond mixture. The resulting dough should be fairly sticky, but not sparse. If the dough seems sparse, add a couple more tablespoons of ground almonds. Roll out the dough between two layers of cling film about 0.5-1 cm thick. Cut out the stars and transfer to a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Turn on the oven preheat to 150 °C. Beat the remaining protein with 100 g of powdered sugar and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Lubricate the stars with the resulting glaze. Bake for 10-15 minutes.
The cookies should dry out, but the top glaze should remain white. If you overcook the stars in the oven, the icing will begin to take on a caramel hue, but this does not greatly affect the taste. Do not shoot the stars until they cool.
