Polish President Andrzej Duda, who has supported Ukraine since the first day of a full-scale Russian invasion, is visiting the United States. In an interview with TVP, he was asked about what Ukraine needs and whether the assistance it receives is enough, wРolityce informs.
“The incoming signal from Ukraine, including to me personally from President Volodymyr Zelensky, has been the same for months: weapons, weapons, weapons and more weapons. Ukraine needs weapons - said Andrzej Duda. - The people are determined, the defenders are absolutely heroic, the morale of the Ukrainian army, volunteers is extremely high, but they need weapons. They received a lot of ultra-modern weapons, thanks to which this Ukrainian offensive is possible. In particular, thanks to our tanks, which we sent to Ukraine, we managed to stop the Russian offensive, and now we are able to repel it. The weapon is used very intensively. These are loads that exceed even the assumptions of the manufacturers.”
Asked if he agreed with commentators that the US, UK and Poland are Ukraine’s biggest allies, the President replied that “We, as President Zelensky himself notes, are at the forefront of helping Ukraine.”
“It’s good, it’s in our interests for Ukraine to defend itself, for Russia to be stopped, for the Russian invasion to be repelled. This does not need to be explained to anyone in Poland,” Duda said.
He said that he thanked US President Joe Biden for the unwavering policy of systemic support for Ukraine, including the allocation of funds for technical assistance.
To the journalist’s remark that some countries, such as Germany, are delaying assistance, Andrzej Duda replied that “each country pursues its own policy and, as you can see, each country also has its own interests”. He noted that there are also people among the German authorities who are trying to help as much as possible.
When asked about the outcome of the negotiations that Duda held at the UN summit, he replied: “It follows from them that we are building a real perspective on the situation in Ukraine and what is happening in our part of Europe. We are also clear and clear about what I said in my speech: this is not a regional conflict. This is not a conflict that will only matter to Ukraine, Poland, the Baltic States, Romania or Moldova. This is a conflict that, with its consequences, will spread like tentacles around the world and wherever the food crisis strikes, and wherever there is an energy crisis.” Therefore, he added, “the cessation of Russian aggression against Ukraine today is a global interest”.
Recall that earlier Andrzej Duda signed a law that significantly expanded the support program for Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
