There are many voice actors who can create content for Mel Blanc titled “Man of a Thousand Voices”. One of the best female examples Tress MacNeil, who grew up on cartoons and knew from an early age that she wanted to be a voice actress. She got her first TV role in Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo in 1979.
McNeil’s vocal talents are so varied that she often voices multiple characters on the show, which can be seen in examples such as Futurama And The Simpsons. She usually plays goofy characters, but is more than capable of being serious when necessary.
10 Hama - Avatar: The Last Airbender
A water lord of the Southern Water Tribe, Hama was kidnapped along with her fellow waterbenders after months of vicious raids by the Fire Nation. She was severely tortured and deprived of water, except for what she needed to survive. Eventually, Khama escaped captivity by learning to manipulate people’s blood like puppets.
Hama is MacNeil’s chance to show just how intimidating she can be in a villainous role. She is the perfect representative of a predator: she has the friendly face of an innkeeper, while hiding the true extent of her cruelty. As an old woman, she became even more vicious, taking her anger out on her captors on innocent civilians.
9 Gadget Hackwrench - Chip and Dale: Rescue Ranges
Gadget Hakrench, the daughter of a respected mouse inventor, inherited her father’s love of craftsmanship and creativity. After meeting Chip Dale (Corey Burton), Monterey Jack (Peter Cullen And Jim Cummings) and Zipper (Corey Burton) form a team called the Rescuers. She often designs gadgets and modes of transport for the team.
Gadget’s love of invention means she is always curious and eager to try new things. She has an adventurous spirit and will support her friends no matter what. However, sometimes she can focus too much on her projects, which means that sometimes she can misinterpret things.
8 Chip - ‘Disney’
One of the oldest Disney animation duos is Chip and Dale, the friendly chipmunks. They originated as an alternative to Mickey’s dog, Pluto, but became famous for their antics with Donald Duck. In comparison, Chip is smarter and more reasonable, while Dale is dumber and more accident prone.
McNeil first voiced Chip in the late 80s and reached a wider audience inChip and Dale: Rescuers show. Although her voice is higher pitched, she does an excellent job of conveying Chip’s serious attitude. She and Burton also have a natural fluidity of dialogue with each other, which adds to the charm of their portrayals.
7 Babs Bunny - “Tiny Toon Adventures”
At Acme Looniversity, young cartoon characters learn business tricks from the classics. Funny melodies themselves. One of his most promising students is a pink rabbit named Babs. With his best friend and co-star Buster (Charlie Adler And John Kassir), she does all sorts of crazy jokes inspired by Bugs Bunny (Jeff Bergman And Greg Burson).
Babs loves to impress others, which gives McNeil the opportunity to showcase his vocal range. She draws inspiration from Bob Clampett a version of Bugs who was more of a mischief-maker and troublemaker. Sometimes her impressions can get her into trouble with teachers and friends, but she ends up with good intentions.
6 Grandma Gertie - “Hey Arnold”
A former librarian and police officer, Gertrude Shortman now runs a boarding house in Hillwood, Washington with her husband Phil (Dan Castellaneta) and her grandson Arnold (Lane Thoran, Philip Van Dyke And Spencer Klein). Age has not been the kindest to her mind, and she often has moments of senile dementia. However, her body is as strong as ever.
Gertie is one of the best grandmothers in any cartoon. Her vibrant personality manifests itself in many ways, such as her varied outfits, nicknames, and the mixing of important holidays. However, when needed, she can focus for long enough to rally around a cause, and never forgets to remind Arnold how much she loves him.
5 Charlotte Pickles - Oh Those Kids
Angelica’s motherCheryl Chase), Charlotte is the CEO of Mega Corp. Therefore, it is sometimes difficult for her to combine work and home life, and she often talks on the phone with clients or her assistant Jonathan (René Auberjonois and Dan Castellaneta). At first, she was hesitant to spend her free time with her extended family and their friends, but as time went on, she began to appreciate the eclectic band.
Compared to her husband Drew (Michael Bell), Charlotte is more severe when Angelica acts, although she is still prone to falling in love with her. While she may seem ruthless, she has a good side at heart and encourages her daughter to be strong and independent. McNeil captures this well in his acting, which always has a poignancy that can be sharper or duller depending on the context.
4 Mom - Futurama
To the rest of the galaxy, Mom, the owner of MomCorp, is a sweet, caring older woman who loves to serve her customers with the utmost integrity. However, behind closed doors, she is actually a corporate tyrant, always trying to gain more power and control. She also has a personal rivalry with Professor Hubert Farnsworth (Billy West) the founder of the Planet Express delivery company, due to the collapse.
Mom stands out among McNeil’s best characters Futurama. There is something so frightening and hilarious when she switches between a soft, gentle voice and a more aggressive and offensive one. Her cruelty ranges from starting a robot uprising to take over Earth, to seizing Dr. Zoidberg’s (Billy West) sole property in exchange for a way to save Farnsworth’s life.
3 Dot Warner - “The Animaniacs”
For decades, Dot and her older brothers Yakko (Rob Paulsen) and Wakko (Jesse Harnell) were kept locked in a Warner Bros. water tower until they fled for good in the 90s. When attempts to contain them failed, the studio sent a psychiatrist, Dr. Scratchanniff (Rob Paulsen). That did little to stop the Warners, who regularly pull off wacky misadventures.
Compared to her siblings, Dot is sweet, with a mixture of male and female interests and a sardonic wit. She prefers to use her cuteness to get her way, but if that doesn’t work, she’s not averse to resorting to unexpected violence, ranging from hammers and bombs to dangerous pets. MacNeil’s voice acting is amazing, capturing her sweet innocence and deadpan snarkyness perfectly.
2 Agnes Skinner - The Simpsons
One of Springfield’s older residents, Agnes Skinner, lives with her son Seymour (Harry Shearer). Their relationship is quite toxic: Agnes acts bossy and controls every aspect of Seymour’s life. She is often physically and emotionally abused when Seymour goes out of his way, especially when she catches him talking to other women.
Agnes’ interactions with the other residents of Springfield aren’t much better, as she enjoys spreading hurtful gossip and making impossible demands on store clerks. As gruesome as she is, her presence gives the series a touch of black humor. MacNeil does a great job of making his lines humorous despite how horrifying they would be in real life.
1 Daisy Duck - Disney (Various)
Daisy, Donald Duck’s girlfriend and Minnie Mouse’s best friend, is one of the most prominent Disney characters. A fashionista at heart, she often tries to encourage Donald to pursue her exquisite interests. She also enjoys talking and hanging out with her friends, sometimes to their annoyance due to how extroverted she is.
MacNeil took over Daisy’s voice acting in 1999 and became her best-known voice actress. Her skills as a voice actress allow her to pick up all the right notes for Daisy: kind, supportive, chatty, a little overbearing, and frivolous. This contributed to Daisy’s enduring popularity and increased her presence in contemporary Disney cartoons.
