In an adaptation as refreshingly authentic as a Netflix live-action movie. One piece a series that is already making a strong positive impression on critics and audiences alike, it’s no surprise that fruits make up a significant portion of the show.
1 season One piece covers most of the lengthy arc of the East Blue anime, showing how Monkey D. Luffy (Inaki Godoy) assembled his pirate crew before heading to the Grand Line. There, using the powers of the Devil Fruit he acquired as a child, he hopes to find a long-lost treasure known as One Piece. On their journey, Luffy and his crew encounter at least one character who also has abilities given to them by the Devil Fruit. What’s more, the series is teasing some other characters who may show similar abilities in the coming season.
What is the Devil Fruit in Netflix’s One Piece?
The origin of the omnipotent Devil Fruit is as mysterious as many other fantastic things in the world. One piece. You won’t know just by looking at one of them, but these seemingly ordinary fruits contain tremendous and unimaginable power. As explained in the series, each of these fruits is unique and endows a person with a completely different set of superpowers and abilities. The exact types of fruit have not been fully described, but there are over 200 in the anime and manga.
The powers that Devil Fruits bestow are vast and extremely powerful, essentially turning its users into near-invincible gods among ordinary humans. However, the key phrase here is “almost invincible” as there is a significant side effect that creates a serious weakness. Anyone who eats a Devil Fruit loses the ability to swim, so the ocean becomes a place to be avoided. For pirates of the high seas like Luffy, this is obviously a pretty serious impediment to speed.
What is a chewing gum fruit?
The first and most common Devil Fruit introduced in One piece is the chewing gum fruit that the main character Luffy eats when he was a little boy. When Captain Red-haired Shanks (Peter Gadiot) collects fruit while traveling, he hopes he can sell it to the highest bidder. Little did he know that the mischievous Luffy was biting into the fruit, officially sending the unsuspecting hero on his journey.
The Bubblegum Fruit essentially turns Luffy into a creature of pure rubber, capable of stretching his body and skin to near-impossible lengths. As with most Devil Fruit users, this makes Luffy very difficult to kill, as bullets and most blades simply bounce off him on impact. Luffy is definitely lucky as the Bubble Gum fruit is one of the most versatile and powerful in the entire world. One piece Universe.
Fruit “Chop-Chop” is exactly what you think
Luffy quickly discovers that he is not the only person to have ingested a Devil Fruit when he, Roronoa Zoro (Makenew) and Nami (Emily Rudd) is kidnapped by the fearsome pirate captain Buggy the Clown (Jeff Ward). Named for his large and seemingly real red nose (although he’s clearly a little shy about it), Buggy is one of the most feared pirates in all of the East Blue, even if he still pales in comparison to the likes of Arlong (McKinley Belcher III). When Luffy cuts off Buggy’s head, it becomes quite clear that this privateer clown is something more.
Miraculously, Buggy’s disembodied head comes off with no blood or guts, and he is still jumping and talking. In fact, all parts of Buggy’s body can be separated and lifted into the air at will. This is all due to Buggy eating the Chop Chop fruit, which grants him these terrifying and disturbing powers. As powerful as Buggy is, his abilities still have their flaws, and Luffy and his crew are able to defeat the clown by locking his body parts individually in boxes.
Smoke-Smoke fruit appears in the final
As the main heading flies over the horizon in time One piece The final episode of the first season, the series has another surprise. In a clear nod to a near-confirmed second season, we see who is the show’s unmistakable classic character. One piece knowledge. A smoke-filled room, two lit cigars, and a wanted poster for Luffy prove beyond a doubt that this enigmatic figure is none other than Smoker, a ruthless Marine commander who later pursues Luffy through the Grand Line.
Smoker’s name and his Smoker Fruit speak for themselves. The fruit he eats allows him to turn into clouds of smoke at will. Not only does this make Smoker incredibly versatile and difficult to hit, but he can also use his smoke abilities to grab and choke his enemies, making him one of the toughest opponents the Straw Hats have ever faced.
Did we see smooth, smooth fruits in the finale?
So, those are all three fruits that we definitely see on Netflix. One piece Season 1, but there may be a fourth fruit hiding under the surface. In the final cut, where the season’s heroes and villains view Luffy’s new wanted poster, we see Buggy at the bar, recovering from a humiliating loss to the Straw Hats. Luckily for him, Buggy isn’t the only one who’s mad at Luffy, and neither was the villain pirate from Episode 1 Alvida (Ilya Isorelis Paulino) also wants revenge.
In the anime, after Alvida is defeated by Luffy, she comes into contact with the Smooth Smooth Fruit. This Devil Fruit drastically changes Alvida’s appearance, but that’s only half the battle. It also makes the Pirate Captain’s skin smoother, allowing bullets and other weapons to slide off easily. It’s certainly possible that Alvida may have eaten the fruit prior to meeting Buggy, but no evidence of this has yet been found and will most likely be revealed in Season 2.
