New short film released IMAX showcases what projectionists around the world have gone through to deliver a complete Oppenheimer experience for viewers. Wayne Indicchief projectionist at the Indiana Museum shares details of what he does Christopher Nolanthe latest film, special in terms of presentation and how it needs to be handled in order to be projected. Frame size and the reel itself are important factors to consider as the story of the man behind the atomic bomb continues to draw viewers from all over the planet.

WITH Oppenheimer is the longest IMAX film in history, theaters had to modify their projectors to fit the giant reels, ensuring that audiences who wanted to watch the film in the format it was intended to get the best possible experience. Nolan worked with several IMAX cameras filming the story of the scientist’s work, and tickets to some of the world’s biggest movie screens were still sold out for the project three weeks after it premiered. In addition to Murphy playing Oppenheimer himself, the rest of the cast performed well in the film, including Emily Blunt as Kitty, Robert’s wife. Other notable references include Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, Robert’s rival and Florence Pugh as Jean Tatlock, a woman who had an affair with Oppenheimer. The work that the actors were able to do can be appreciated at IMAX thanks to the tireless work of the projectionists who make sure that each clip is shown properly, taking viewers through three hours of an incredibly personal story.
