In yet another creative shake-up, Deadline confirmed Above The Line’s message that the writers Damon Lindelof And Justin Britt-Gibson both left the Star Wars film untitled. Project director appointed Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoystill moving forward at Lucasfilm.
While a well-known talent is coming out of development, the film is reportedly set to be officially announced in April during the Star Wars celebrations. The well-guarded film’s plot remains largely a mystery, but early signs indicate that the project is incredibly important to Lucasfilm for one big reason. There are rumors that the movie will take place after Star Wars: Skywalker. Sunrise, as well as characters from the sequel trilogy. If true, this will be the first time characters from the newest films have returned to the franchise. Moreover, most likely, this will be the next feature-length Star Wars project that will be released in theaters.
Lately, the already thin Star Wars theatrical tile has been facing significant creative attrition. Recently it became known that the president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feigemysterious Star Wars project written by “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness” Michael Waldron, no longer moving forward. Moreover, Patty Jenkins will not pilot the previously announced Rogue Squadronpostponed indefinitely. The exact reasons for their premature cancellation remain unclear, but over the years filmmakers have been parting ways with Lucasfilm less and less. However, it looks like the studio is determined to get Obaid-Chinoy’s film off the ground despite the absence of Lindelof and Britt-Gibson.
The project has already run into difficulties.
Although the news is relatively shocking, the writing was on the wall. During an interview with /Film, Lindelof noted the difficulty of entering the Star Wars universe and hinted at the futility of creating a project:
“I’ll just say that for reasons I can’t get into this Sunday morning, this day, the difficulty level is extremely, extremely, extremely high. If it can’t be great, it shouldn’t exist. That’s all I’ll say, because I have the same associations with him as you do, namely, this is the first film that I saw, sitting on my father’s lap, four years old, May 77th. when you treat something with so much reverence and respect, you start crawling into the kitchen and just think, “Maybe I shouldn’t be cooking. Maybe I should just eat.” We’ll just leave it at this stage.”
