In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Reedus gives the impression that fans Walking Dead the universe may have to adjust its expectations when it comes to this new show, because it’s not just a sequel, “it’s a reboot.” Reedus says that after 12 years of work Walking Dead, “You learn a lot… and there are certain paths you inevitably have to take” due to the series having such a large cast. It’s kind of a new beginning for us, with all the things we loved doing and a whole host of other things.” This will definitely be a fresh start for Daryl as he figures out how he ended up in France, and how to get back home.
Fans also need to get used to Daryl in his new surroundings as he makes his way through zombie-infested France. Regarding the spin-off set in Europe, Reedus says, “There is a story in a story. History is in the walls around us. History in the sound of it all. It’s a completely different feeling. , but it was just taken and placed in a completely different dimension.”
Daryl going to a new part of the world, possibly reflecting Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) travel. In the first episode of season 1, Rick woke up in a completely new world, different from the one he knew before, and had to make his way through it. Sure, the world Rick left behind was somewhat normal and not infested with zombies, but the way Daryl goes through such a journey provides another opportunity for his character to grow.
