It’s a generally accepted truth that remakes are often the name of the game these days. It is also known that when the dolls take on their favorite story, they do it spectacularly. Take puppet christmas caroladaptation Charles Dickens’ favorite story that turns 30 this month. But now it seems the band’s attention may be shifting to another iconic piece in the British literary canon.
During an interview with Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and Robin as part of Entertainment Weekly’s Around the Table series, the moderator Brett Goldstein (TEd Lasso) came up with the idea dolls Pride and Prejudicefilm adaptation Jane AustenX Pride and Prejudice starring himself and, well, Miss Piggy, of course - who else could it be, with a working title like Pride and Prejudice and Piggy?
Over the years, Kermit the Frog has always been romantically paired with Miss Piggy—even Benjamina Gunn’s gender role in muppet treasure island to make it possible in a story that has virtually no women - it looks like Kermit will take a backseat to Goldstein this time around. Amphibian with several hyphens playfully agreed to make the film if Goldstein could give it the green light. Being green might not be easy, but getting the film greenlit should be pretty easy when you combine Goldstein’s pull and Miss Piggy’s push.
For fans Ted Lasso, having Goldstein as Darcy is not a problem. Rough and aloof on the outside, but with an absolutely sticky heart of gold, with eyes exactly the size of a firework of a woman who absolutely does not accept his nonsense? Fitzwilliam Darcy and Roy Kent may have more in common than anyone can imagine.
The only potential glitch in the plan from where I’m sitting is that Pride and Prejudice there are many women in the cast, and there are almost no female dolls. Again, there are probably very few actors who will not take the chance to appear in Pride and Prejudice and Piggy. If I could humbly offer to play the role of Goldstein Ted Lasso co-star Juno Temple like Jane Bennet opposite Mr. Bingley Kermit, it’s just that extra meta-touch that makes The Muppets so good.
