Universal released the first teaser of the director Christopher NolanX Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy as a titled theoretical physicist. The short clip features black and white footage of Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer alternating with large explosions of fire. As Emily BluntWho’s playing Katherine Oppenheimer says: “The world is changing, reforming. This is your moment.” A countdown appears and time is quickly reduced as another voice-over says, “You gave them the power to destroy themselves.” And another calls Oppenheimer “the most important person who ever lived.” Given Nolan’s penchant for temporary themes, this countdown takes us to the day when “the world will change forever.”
At first glance, Oppenheimer looks like nothing more than another Nolan masterpiece. The clock is ticking for the protagonist who is about to change the world forever. As Robert Downey Jrwho plays a businessman Lewis Strauss, a voiceover sets the film’s theme and calls Oppenheimer “the man who moved the earth”. You will notice that the YouTube link for Oppenheimer - this is a live video - this is because every time you watch it, the countdown decreases in real time to the release date of the movie.
The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. American Prometheus: Triumph and Tragedy by J. Robert Oppenheimer on Kai Bird and late Martin J. Sherwin. Nolan adapted the script and also produced the film. From the teaser, we can tell that both Nolan and Murphy have done extensive research to include every last detail about the real scientist. Murphy previously told Variety:[I prepped by doing] read an awful lot.” Further adding: “I am interested in this man and what [inventing the atomic bomb] does in relation to the individual. The mechanics of this aren’t quite for me - I don’t have the intellectual ability to figure them out - but these conflicting characters are adorable.” stylized in black and white retro style.
Along with Murphy, Blunt and Downey Jr., Nolan has hired an outstanding cast that includes Matt Damon as Leslie Groves, Florence Pugh as jean tetlock beside Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, David Kramholtz, Michael Angarano as well as Kenneth Branagh.
Lovely black and white aesthetic shot by cinematographer Hoyt van Hoytema who previously collaborated with the director on features such as Interstellar, Dunkirk, as well as Dogma. Latest development by Hoytema Jordan PeeleX nope starring Keke Palmer as well as Daniel Kaluuya. Other returning Nolan film co-writers: Dogma editor Jennifer Lame and composer Ludwig Göransson. It is noteworthy that the film was the director’s first work at Universal Studios in the last 20 years. Nolan only works with Warner Bros Studios. He’s co-producing Emma Thomas as well as Charles Roven.
