More and more people check the prices of groceries at several other stores before shopping. Studies show that prices are rising by leaps and bounds from month to month.

Thanks to this, each person could save about a dozen zlotys by going from store to store. This is one of the most popular forms of finding savings in recent times. And food prices before Easter do not slow down. This is confirmed by both reality and statistics.

In February, shoppers had to pay 4.3 percent for basic grocery purchases. more than in January. The average price of a trolley was PLN 285.46. This is an increase of almost PLN 12 per month. “The increase has already reached 50 zł per year, that is 21 percent.” is the result of the latest shopping cart research and report prepared by ASM Sales Force.

Fat products have become more expensive

The report shows that in February you could pay PLN 220.48 per basket, based on the lowest food prices. This is PLN 9.12 more than in the previous month. On the other hand, if buying products at the highest prices, their cost would be PLN 348.47, which is PLN 12.15 more than in January. The difference between the cheapest and most expensive basket in February was PLN 127.99. This is PLN 3.03 more than in the first month of this year.

According to the authors of the study, the annualized minimum basket was worth 21 percent in February. more than a year ago, and the maximum basket was 14.35% more expensive. compared to the same period in 2022. Over the past twelve months, prices for fatty products (53%), additives (38%), household chemicals and cosmetics (24%) have increased the most. The smallest increase in prices touched sweets - by 11.97 percent.

Within a month, price increases were recorded in almost every supermarket.

According to the survey, in almost every one of the fourteen retail chains surveyed, prices last month were significantly higher than in January of this year. The exception was Lidl, where prices fell by 2.29 percent, but still, according to experts, were higher than in the Auchan network.

The largest growth was in the Kaufland network. During the month, prices for the same products were higher by PLN 24.14 (9.23%). Shoppers in the Carrefour chain of stores had to pay slightly less, where prices increased by PLN 21.22 (7.78%) in a month. Significantly higher prices for basic products were also recorded year-on-year in all analyzed supermarkets.

High prices can be seen both in discount stores and online stores. The analysis shows that prices in Carrefour stores increased by almost a third (29.37%) over the year. The average basket price in the network’s stores in February was PLN 66.77 higher than a year ago. The rise in prices by almost a quarter was recorded in several chains. In Intermarche the increase was 24.57 percent, in Biedronka 24.53 percent and in the POLO supermarket 24.36 percent.
