Weight Lily Care Tips: How to Keep These Incredible Blooms Longer as Possible

Must read

We recently wrote about how to keep a bouquet of roses in weight longer. Now it’s time for tips on preserving the beauty of another flower - the lily. With their trumpet-shaped petals, tall stems and beautiful colors, lilies are a favorite in the flower world. Whether you’re giving them to others or giving them to yourself, it’s worth knowing how to care for lilies at full weight so they stay beautiful longer, writes livingetc.com.

Resist the temptation to simply place the lilies in the vase as they are. Stem pruning is necessary not only to create a beautiful arrangement with flowers placed at different heights to emphasize each of them. A quick cut in the right place will also extend the life of your lilies.

All flower stems should be trimmed to allow water absorption. Ideally, cut the stems while holding them under water. Cut at least an inch from the bottom of the stem at a 45 degree angle to expose as much of the end as possible.

Lilies can produce a lot of pollen that can stain your clothes, cause sneezing, and stick to pets’ paws. However, this shedding is quite easy to fix. You should carefully cut or pinch off the stamen from the lily so that it does not get dirty.

Like all life forms, cut lilies need fresh water. It’s too tempting to fill a vase once and forget about it. However, stagnant water will kill your flowers.

Be sure to use a clean vase and fill it about three-quarters full with warm water. Use flower food to prolong the life of the flowers and make sure they retain their vigor and vibrancy. Also make sure there are no soap residues in the weight, as these can shorten the life of the bouquet.

It is important to place lilies in warm water as this encourages them to open up. The key is to change the water daily. But it is equally important to keep the flowers away from direct sunlight and heat sources such as radiators if you want them to look good for longer. Lilies are known to be poisonous to pets, so keep them away from cats in particular. Although not all varieties are poisonous to dogs, you should play it safe. Make sure the flowers are in a place where they can’t be touched or chewed on by inquisitive dogs, kittens, or children.
