On April 21, the premiere of the action game Dead Island 2 took place, since the release of the first part of which almost 12 years have passed. Was it worth the wait?
I will write right away - I have never played Dead Island. Even though I love zombie games, somehow Techland’s products fell into this weird period where I just didn’t have a computer suitable for AAA games, or I got fed up with this topic and I’m not tired of running through Summoner’s Rift yet.
Whatever the reason, I just missed killing zombies on tropical islands, and a few years later, I had a lot of other games to catch up on. Perhaps I even decided somewhere along the way that I would play with a maximum of two - but this one did not fit.
A Game Born in Pain… Not a Disaster
The premiere of the sequel, after the sale of the rights to the name of Wroclaw’s Techland, dragged on extremely long. The game was developed by Yager Development, Sumo Digital and finally in 2019 by Dambuster Studios. Rather than capitalize on the popularity of the first game, publisher Deep Silver took the risk of scaring players away. In this industry, such stories usually end in failure.
Surprisingly, patient polishing the game has paid off. The boring production about the massacre of zombies turned out to be surprisingly pleasant, from the very first minutes. On the start screen, we are greeted by a great song that promises a really good music track.
Then we get a simple, but even neat plot twist. I could open them - because we never needed great philosophy to cut through the hordes of the living dead - but I will not do it out of habit. One way or another, we have to survive the zombie apocalypse again and again, we will save someone along the way.
