Working at Meta, and formerly at Facebook, was a dream until recently. Working for one of the largest Internet giants not only provided generous earnings, but also opened up prospects for an excellent career. Those days are long gone, and the people who remain in the company describe their work as mediocre at best.
Depressed metaworkers — another wave of layoffs is coming
Meta was one of the companies most adversely affected by the changes in the technology market. While many companies have made the decision to restructure, few companies have been able to match the scale of layoffs at Facebook and the company.
At the end of 2022, more than 11,000 people were forced to say goodbye to their positions at Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other meta-companies. Already this year, another wave of layoffs amounted to as many as 10,000 employees. However, those who miraculously escaped this fate have nothing to rejoice at.
Anecdotal reports indicate that Zuckerberg is planning further layoffs that should cut the conglomerate by another 5,000 people. The complete uncertainty about the future reduces the morale of the Meta staff to an all-time low. As it turns out, this is just the beginning of their problems.
Work at Meta - lack of prospects and inept managers
The Year of Efficiency, announced in March, means budget cuts in almost every aspect of Facebook’s operations. Most of the expenses reimbursed to employees, including the payment of employees for business trips or other expenses related to the performance of work, are forgotten.
Most employee benefits are a thing of the past, and employees look back with sadness on benefits such as free laundry or other bonuses they were rewarded with when they were hired.
Teams also complain about changes in company management. During the COVID-19 pandemic, executives began to move to different parts of the country or the world and have not returned to the office since. In many cases, this means that the bosses have lost sight of what is going on in the team. Employees should feel left out without supervision and clear goals.
Finally, staff must face a lack of prospects. Facebook changed its name to Meta and made a big bet on the concept of the metaverse, which, however, did not interest ordinary users. For the time being, it seems like a big investment is being missed and competition from Microsoft and Google is leaving Meta behind by developing AI technologies and chatbots like ChatGPT or Bard AI.
