The match between Iga Swiatek and Petra Martic was by far the most difficult of all that the Pole played at Wimbledon this year. Despite some troubles, the Rasinian defeated the Croat. This at the beginning of the meeting had to face an unusual problem.
So far, Iga Sviontek has performed very well at Wimbledon this year, although she has never enjoyed playing on grass before. However, this time the Russian, at least it seems so, is better prepared for this prestigious tournament. In the first two rounds, she defeated Lin Zhu and Sarah Sorribes Torno, both triumphing in spectacular style.
Wimbledon. Problems of Iga Sviontek and the unusual problem of Petra Martic
Naturally, in the match with Petra Martic, Bialo-Chervona was also considered the favorite, but it was the Croatian who won the first game. However, at first she had an unusual problem, because… She was blinded by the sun. So we saw him toss the ball a few times and then he couldn’t serve because he couldn’t see anything. When, in one of these situations, the 32-year-old finally decided to shoot, she almost sent the ball into the stands. But she didn’t have a hat on.
At the beginning of the meeting, Sviontek clearly did not have the right rhythm. So after four games we had a score of 2:2, and the polka’s own mistakes multiplied. This could slightly disturb all fans of the first racket of the WTA rating, and it is not surprising. However, the initial difficulties were overcome. Rashinyanka improved her efficiency, served balls that were more difficult to defend, and, finally, after a goalless victory and a break point, it became 5:2, and a moment later it became 6:2.
Iga Swiatek tired in the match with Petra Martic
Martic also showed an early lead in the second set when she took a 1-0 lead thanks to an ace on the serve. It was by far the best period in the Croatian’s game, because she did not allow Sviontek to take the initiative. On the contrary - she was chasing the 32-year-old with the results of 1:2 and 2:3.
Luckily, the Pole handled the pressure well that day, because at that moment she “slowed down the pace”, won the next two games (one of them with zero) and took the lead 4:3. The Croatian also became helpless in the next, when the Rashinsky player began to throw deadly blows from the right. She also made the score 5:3 thanks to a game won to zero, but then her opponent took the lead. At the end of the second set, we watched a real rollercoaster, which ended with three match goals in favor of Byala-Chervona with a score of 6:5. The 22-year-old has already used the first of them, so she won 7:5, and the whole match 2:0 and advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon.
