The Polish volleyball team played the second match of the first Nations League tournament. After the victory over Canada, a match followed with the leader of the FIVB rating - Italy. Although Italy does not compete with the strongest squad, a victory over such an opponent will give Byalo-Chervona a lot of motivation.
The Italians arrived at the first VNL tournament not in the best lineup. Nevertheless, the Poles met with the team that won the gold of the last European Championships and the League of Nations, as well as the bronze of last year’s World Championship. There was no shortage of emotions in the direct clash of the White-Reds with Italy. The Poles left the field happy and won 3:1 (21:25, 25:20, 25:14, 25:18).
Late for Poland match
Both teams came into the match after five sets in the first leg of the Nations League. The Italians defeated Thailand, while the Polish Canadians. The direct duel began with a modest advantage of Stefano Lavarini’s wards. However, the opponents quickly jumped up and took the lead. Byalo-Chervone allowed them a few points and then mobilized to catch up. Fans have seen a similar picture many times. However, it was Italy who first scored the 20th point, and later brought it to the end of the set, winning 25:21.
Polish players, obviously nervous, entered the second part well. Although at first the Italians did not lag behind them, before the half of the set Byalo-Chervone gained a few points advantage. Dominance of Polish female volleyball players
A good streak survived the break between sets. The quarter-finalists of the last World Cup started the third game with a three-point lead and then increased it to 6-1. Mazzanti had to react, but that didn’t help him much. Quarterback Katarzyna Wienerska was great on defense and Martina Czyrnanska was dangerous on the pitch. Already at an early stage of the set, the Poles got such a big advantage that they robbed the Italians of the desire to fight for the victory. Otherwise, the set resembled a single game. The Italian players and coaching staff had no desire to fight for a better result. Poland won the set 25:14.
The beginning of the fourth set was no longer similar to the beginning of the previous set. The Italians recovered from the cataclysm and quickly pulled ahead by 2-3 points. It took the White-Reds several minutes to catch up. With a 9:9 draw, Mazzanti finally asked for a timeout. The timeout didn’t work, because the Polish volleyball players had a breath of sails. Things were going well for Magdalena Stisyak, she led the offensive of the White-Reds. It was she who forced the team to maintain the winning streak. The Poles won the fourth set 25:18, thus winning the entire match with a score of 3:1.
Poles will compete with the national team of Thailand
The most productive player of the match was Magdalena Stisyak (24 points). In the next match of the Turkish Nations League tournament, the Poles will play with Thailand (0 wins, 2 losses). The meeting with the team from the Asian continent will take place on Friday, June 2, at 13:00.
