The last Ski Jumping World Cup competitions will be held soon. As usual, the ski jumping season will culminate with Letalnica in Planica. Unfortunately, the forecasts before the competition are not optimistic. This is a battle against time and weather.
This year the Ski Jumping World Cup is coming to an end. Most of the yellow jersey belonged to David Kubacki, but at the end of January he lost it to Halvor Egner Granerud, who officially became the owner of the Crystal Ball a few weeks ago. The 33-year-old from Nowy Targ withdrew from the remaining competition due to family reasons, which means he is already in third place and there are many signs that he will also fall off the podium in favor of Anza Lanisk. Meanwhile, before the last competition in Planica, there were some minor complications.
Ski Jumping World Cup Final Under Threat
In previous years, the last World Cup competitions were held at the beginning of March, so usually the organizers did not have to worry about the weather conditions, which were very good in Slovenia. This time around, the season finale will take place at the turn of March and April, and a staircase has appeared. Slovenian news sites give unfavorable information about temperature and weather. Currently, the thermometers in Planica show 10 degrees Celsius, and the organizers of the competitions in Letalnica are starting to worry about the amount of snow.
Worst of all for them are weather forecasters, who predict that on the eve of the competition it will rain heavily in Planica, due to which, probably, the snow accumulated there will begin to melt and dangerous slips will occur.
Competition organizer in Planica calms down
However, Aljos Dolhar, head of Letalnica and other hills in Planica, assures them that they are ready for any weather conditions and are not afraid of potential difficulties.
“We’re almost ready to run.” There is still work to be done with the jump, but there is no danger that we will fail. The World Cup will take place, we will make it on time, ”he recalled in an interview.
