The first of these teams defeated Italy in the semi-finals, that is, the hosts of the playoffs in Bologna. The Americans, in turn, defeated Poland, who played for bronze with Byalo-Chervonich.

Only in the third set the Americans woke up and started an equal fight, and even gained a three-point advantage.
