Decree No. 7593 was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada on the proposal of President Volodymyr Zelensky on the appointment of a new Prosecutor General of Ukraine. Andrey Kostin, a people’s deputy, the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy, can become it.

This was reported by the press service of the Verkhovna Rada.

“In accordance with paragraph 11 of part one of Article 106 and part three of Article 131-1 of the Constitution of Ukraine, I submit a proposal to grant the consent of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the appointment of Andriy Kostin to the position of Prosecutor General,” the submission says.

The representative of the president in the Constitutional Court Fyodor Venislavsky is authorized to present this presentation at the plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada.

According to people’s deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a meeting of the relevant parliamentary committee to consider this issue was scheduled for July 27 at 10:00 am.

Andrey Kostin - People’s Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation from the Servant of the People party. Since January 14, 2020 - Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy.

Recall that on July 19, 2022, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dismissed Irina Venediktova from the post of Prosecutor General. 264 people’s deputies voted for this decision.

On July 17, President Volodymyr Zelensky removed Irina Venediktova from her post as Prosecutor General and removed Ivan Bakanov, head of the Security Service of Ukraine, from his post. The President explained his decision by mass cases of high treason and collaborationism in the ranks of these departments.

As previously reported, the European Solidarity faction considers the personnel decisions regarding the heads of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Office of the Prosecutor General to be another step towards a Russian-style dictatorship.

Meanwhile, Andriy Yermak and Oleg Tatarov continue to block the appointment of the head of the SAP.
