I have worked in the news industry for over 10 years. I have a deep understanding of how the news industry works and how to get information out to the public. I am also an author at Daily News Hack, where I mostly cover health news. Atopic dermatitis (or atopic eczema) is not limited to children. Most children with this disease outgrow it as they age, but this is not always the case. The disease can drag on for years with periods of “better - worse.” Also, AD may first begin in adulthood. dermatologist Ekaterina Bakiko.

“Children’s skin is somewhat different from adult skin, so the disease may not be the same in appearance, sensations and localization. In adults, skin affected by eczema is more flaky. Years of chronic inflammation and scabs cause the skin in these places to be thicker, with a more pronounced skin pattern, darker. Nails can deteriorate, in adults atopy affects the back of the knee, bends of the elbows and hands, neck and face (eyelids and lips). I am often asked how atopic dermatitis is similar in adults and children. First of all, the rash can appear anywhere on the skin. Severe itching, sleep disturbance due to itching, feelings of depression, anxiety, the disease leads to skin infections, increases the risk of developing asthma, hay fever and other allergies, and a decrease in quality of life if left untreated.

The basic treatment for atopic dermatitis consists of several things, the doctor adds.

“Cleanse your skin with a gentle, hypoallergenic soap-free cleanser. Cleanse the skin with massaging movements, but do not rub. The water is not hot. Shower duration up to 10 min. Frequency 2-7 times a week. After lightly blotting the skin with a towel, apply the emollient cream to the still damp skin. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, cold and wind, household chemicals, cosmetics, alcohol and other aggressive substances on the skin. Apply a hypoallergenic moisturizer in the form of a cream or balm all over the skin, both during an flare-up and in remission, often/a lot/constantly. Avoid skin contact with irritating materials (wool, thick fiber textiles). Do not wear tight or overly warm clothing to avoid excessive sweating. If you sweat, take a quick shower. Maintain cool temperatures at home and at work, avoid over-covering with blankets at night. Control the humidity in the room (50-70%). Do not smoke.

The main medicines for relieving skin inflammation are external hormonal creams and ointments. The goal in treatment is not to cure the disease, but to reduce the frequency and severity of exacerbations, that is, to gain control over the disease. Hormonal agents that are applied to the skin are inexpensive and safe. Do not self-medicate. On delicate areas of the skin (face, genitals and folds), if possible, we avoid the use of hormonal drugs, we prefer non-hormonal drugs.

Treatment, Ekaterina explains, is to relieve the symptoms of the rash and continue treatment to prevent a new exacerbation (proactively).

“That is, a person continues to occasionally lubricate the medicines on the areas where there was a rash for a long time. The treatment regimen is prescribed by the doctor at the consultation. To relieve itching, internal antiallergic drugs are used. When there are signs of infection - antibiotics, disinfectant baths, antifungal or antiherpetic medicines. Adults have many more options for treating more severe forms of atopy. These are phototherapy, systemic cytostatics and immunobiological treatment.”

Earlier dermatologist Anastasia Gritsina said that people with problem skin should not eat. Noting that the main taboo is dairy products.
