It is unlikely that anyone uses filter creams correctly. Consequences can be serious

Must read

More and more people who go out in the sun are using sunscreen. However, few do it right. Dermatologists warn of the consequences, which can be serious for your health. They remind us that we must protect children and immunocompromised people from the sun.

Sunburn is a skin reaction to an excessive dose of ultraviolet radiation. Redness, swelling, burning and soreness appear on the skin. With second-degree burns, blisters filled with serous fluid appear on reddened skin. Dermatologists warn that such sunburns can have serious health consequences.

“It has been proven that with repeated sunburn, especially in childhood, the risk of skin melanoma increases several times,” said in an interview with PAP the head of the department of dermatology and allergology of the provincial hospital in Szczecin, MD. Małgorzata Jeziorna.

We must especially protect children from UV radiation

Specialists warn that children and immunosuppressed people, especially those taking immunosuppressive drugs, should be given special protection because excessive exposure to radiation can increase the risk of developing cancer. Infants under 6 months of age should not be exposed to direct sunlight.

Sun exposure accelerates the aging process of the skin

Studies show that people who enjoy sunbathing and frequently expose their bodies to the sun have a faster skin aging process and an increased risk of skin cancer. Discoloration, discoloration, calluses, blemishes and wrinkles appear on the skin. Therefore, time in the sun should be limited, and if you decide to sunbathe, you should use sunscreen correctly.

Lubricate yourself with cream every two hours.

Sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours, and even more often if you swim in water. Experts point out that UV radiation acts not only during sunbathing, but also during daily activities, walking and movement. They remind you to use sunscreen every day in spring, summer and fall, not just on sunny days.

2 mg of cream per centimeter of body

According to the manufacturer’s recommendations, 2 mg of cream should be used per square centimeter of the body, i.e. 30 grams for the whole body. Even a tube of cream should be used while sunbathing.

Skin phototype

The degree of protection in the filters used depends on the skin phototype - skin tone, hair color and reaction to the sun. In Poland, the first and second phototypes are mainly found with pale or light skin color. For such people, it is recommended to use an SPF 50+ or 30+ filter.
