Removed 10,000 gall bladders with one method. This is probably a world record.

Must read

The pioneer of laparoscopic surgery in Poland has probably performed the most gallbladder removals using this method in the world, boasts a hospital in Szczecin. The doctor has performed more than 10,000 procedures.

This is prof. Andrzej Modrzejewski from the 109th military hospital in Szczecin, and the gallbladder has been removed by laparoscopy for 30 years. The hospital boasted the specialist’s impressive statistics on their social media.

8 minutes and after the bubble

Operations by this method are much safer for the patient, heal faster, are minimally invasive, do not require opening the abdominal cavity, as with the traditional method. The bubble is removed through a small incision, and the procedure is carried out with instruments only 0.5-1 cm in diameter. The surgeon performs the operation under general anesthesia, watching the monitor on the operating table. In the case of procedures carried out by Prof. Modzheevsky, it takes only a few tens of minutes (usually less than half an hour). - My shortest procedure lasted only eight minutes, - says prof. Modzheevsky.

The most gall bladders in the world?

The first such operation by Prof. Andrzej Modrzejewski (then MD) performed the operation 30 years ago in mid-1991 at the 3rd General Surgery Clinic of the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin. It was then that the first equipment for laparoscopic operations appeared in Poland and, according to the hospital, prof. Modrzejewski was one of the pioneers of this technique in Poland. Most likely, he was also the first Polish surgeon to perform this type of operation with the help of only Polish surgeons. Until today Prof. Modrzejewski has performed more than 10,000 laparoscopic gallbladder surgeries and, as he admits, there is no data in the medical world that would allow us to conclude that anyone in the world has performed more such surgeries.

- Complications after this type of operation in the form of damage to the bile ducts occur in 3-4 cases out of a thousand. It didn’t happen to me, says the surgeon.

Currently prof. Modrzeevsky is the head of the Clinical Department of General Surgery of the Pomor Medical University at the 109th military hospital on the street. Piotr Skarga in Szczecin. Doctors usually perform a number of other laparoscopic procedures in addition to removing the gallbladder. These are operations of the colon, abdominal hernia, removal of the appendix, spleen or adrenal glands,
