Despite the fact that during the year of the war, Ukraine freed 2,235 defenders from Russian captivity, hundreds more captives remain in the dungeons of the enemy. On Saturday, May 6, this figure decreased by another 45 - the invaders fired a group of Azovstal defenders, including three women.

Andriy Yermak, head of the Coordinating Headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war, head of the President’s Office, announced this on Telegram.
According to him, all the dismissed are the National Guardsmen from the Azov Regiment - 35 privates and sergeants, as well as 10 officers.

Among them are a couple who got married during the defense of Mariupol, as well as a soldier who, before the large-scale invasion, was held captive by the Russians for 2.5 years, where he ended up during the Shirokinsk operation, and again fell into the clutches of the enemy at Azovstal.
Recall that during the preliminary exchange, which took place on April 26, it was possible to return home not only prisoners of war, but also two civilian Ukrainians illegally imprisoned by the enemy.
