Editor’s Note: The following are spoilers for the second season of The Lincoln Lawyer.

Throughout the second season Lincoln Lawyerwe have witnessed the long and complex trial of Lisa Trammell (Lana Parria). Restaurant owner accused of killing Mitchell BondurantClint Carmichael), a real estate mogul who began to hurt her business after she refused to sell her property because he wanted to build a building in the area. Lisa’s situation is dire: she’s not exactly a nice person, she’s loud on the news about her hatred of gentrification, and she’s the only suspect in a murder case.

And yet … Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia Rulfo) believes she is innocent. We kind of are too, because the whole season proves that an angry person can hardly be a killer. And even though Lisa stood a good chance, there was some strong evidence pointing to her innocence. The glove with her blood looked like it had been tossed around, she was too short to deliver a fatal blow to the victim’s head, and she was smart enough to know that killing the CEO wouldn’t stop the construction of the building. . So, did Lisa kill Mitchell Bondurant or not?

The short answer is no. The Netflix series makes it clear to viewers in two ways: First, Mickey and his associates go into detail about the case and make it clear that if Lisa ends up being convicted, there’s a chance she’s been framed. The second way was for the jury to acquit her - opinions were already tilting in her favor, but the game changed when Mickey was finally able to point the finger at another suspect: Alex Grant (Michael A. Gurjian). The jury was immediately turned as soon as the man pleaded fifth when cross-examination began to give the impression that he had a strong motive to kill Bondurant.

Lisa is innocent, but that doesn’t mean she’s innocent.

But there was something about Lisa. Mickey couldn’t figure out what was going on, especially since he was romantically involved with her. But we could tell that there was something about the way she defended herself that hinted that she was hiding something (and kudos to Lana Parrilla for playing it that way). But even Mickey eventually caught up with him.

His first sign that something was wrong with Lisa was when she was sent to prison for the first time for Bondurant’s murder and needed to post a $200,000 bail. She could sell her property (the restaurant and her house were in the same place), but she was adamant not to. Of course, most people wouldn’t want to do this, but Lisa was facing a life sentence without parole. It’s the kind of situation where everything takes a backseat to prove your innocence while still being free. But Lisa said no.

Her argument was that she grew up in this house and the restaurant was her whole life. It’s really. But if you look at it from a business point of view, it doesn’t make much sense. She had a loyal customer base who were driven away by construction noise and dust. She could have moved and still opposed gentrification. She could even sue the construction company for damages, but she stayed where she was. Why?

The secret of Lisa’s husband

The answer, as it turns out, is contained in a crime documentary. Lisa may be innocent of the murder of Mitchell Bondurant, but she killed a man: her husband Jeff (Adam J. Harrington). As witnesses made clear throughout Lisa’s trial, she had a mutually abusive relationship with her ex-husband, to the point of screaming matches and throwing objects around. They continued this until Jeff could not stand it and decided to file for divorce. And then he disappeared.

Even though the show doesn’t go too deep into this relationship and we only hear Lisa’s version, it’s safe to assume that there was a controlling aspect to Lisa and her husband (and perhaps even the other way around to give her the Doubt Advantage). So she didn’t even want to hear about the divorce and possibly losing half of what she had built. That’s why she killed him and buried him in the backyard.

However, there is one element that suggests that Lisa’s actions were more of cold-blooded murders: Jeff hated cilantro, one of the ingredients Lisa likes to use in her restaurant. She planted a whole cilantro garden where she buried Jeff, so it’s kind of hard to believe that Lisa was an innocent victim just defending herself from an aggressive man. In addition, she hired a man who posed as Jeff and gave the impression that he was crazy, who could not be put forward as a witness. If she was willing to go that far, it doesn’t look good for her.

That’s why LornaBecky Newton) prompts the police to show up at Lisa’s door and start asking questions again, and while we probably won’t see her if the show returns in Season 3, chances are she’ll be in jail for a long time.

So, who really killed Mitchell Bondurant?

One of the distinguishing aspects Lincoln LawyerThe second season is that the show isn’t really interested in finding out who killed Bondurant. Throughout the series, the questions viewers have are more related to “why is Lisa being framed?” and “is she innocent?” and since we see it through Mickey’s eyes, proving Lisa’s innocence was more important than finding out who really committed the murder.

By the end of Season 2, it’s heavily implied that Alex Grant had big line deals that could be ruined by Mitchell Bondurant, and while he refused to answer any questions when he was put in his place, it looked like that on the show. Bondurant’s murder has certainly not been closed - especially after someone tried to run over Mickey in a car that looked like Alex’s, so this may not be the last we hear from the suspect.

Whose body is in the morgue at the end of season 2?

Last but not least, in the last moments of the second season, Mickey goes to the morgue in West Hollywood because he allegedly knows the man who was murdered. When he gets there, he discovers that he has been hired to protect a man who has killed a woman named Gisele Dallinger. It is only when Mickey looks at the body that he realizes that the woman is actually Gloria Dayton, aka Glory Days (Fiona Rene), a former client and prostitute who tried to change her life. So the question for the third season is: who killed her? And why is her best friend suspect? As series creator Ted Humphrey revealed by Collider, the ending pretty much gives away which Mitchell Connelly novel will be adapted next.
